Sept. 6--Shutterbug

Will was walking along the side of the Thames with his camera, taking pictures of...well, pretty much everything. The London Eye, the campus, the skyline...he was munching on a hot dog as he took in the sights.

Marcus was heading towards Will from the opposite direction. He woke up early to go into the town and look at some of the stores. His head was lowered as he looked through some catalog he picked at one of the stores there. Upon closer inspection, the catalog was about rings.

A brief glance up from his reading and he noticed Will. "Hey man."

Will looked up in surprise. "Hey, Marcus! What brings you out here?"

"Doin' a little exploring. I had to check our some of the shops in town. What about you?"

"Similar kind of thing. I'm just trying to get some photos for reference--plus it's interesting enough around here to justify me wasting a perfectly good day outside.

Also, I like hot dogs."

"I hear ya. Yeah. The little food booths up and down this place have some good stuff." He closed the catalog, just holding at his side.

"Have you been to the London Eye yet? It's pretty cool."

"Not yet; I'm saving that one. Right now, I'm just trying to get some shots from ground level and whatnot--the Eye'll give me a great overview, but that is what it is."

"It's a nice little date spot too." He smiled. "Speaking of date, did you end up hanging out more with Sara in the XUB after I left?"

Will grins sheepishly. "I suppose I did. We danced some, and then we...went out for some fresh air."

He smirked. "That's cool. You guys were kinda hitting it off in the Danger Room and after the talk in the XUB, I figured I should give you two some space."

"Well, I certainly thank you for that. Not that I don't enjoy your company, of course."

"I know man. It's just, once you lay out our super awesome daring truck adventure, the ladies are hooked." He grinned. "Sara's pretty awesome."

He thought for a moment. "Well, mind if I join you on your sight seeing? I probably should stop by some more stores on the way."

"Yeah, she is.

Oh, and feel free to tag along. I've been getting a little board wandering around on my own, and I think I permanently scared Simon away, so I could use the company.

Want a hot dog? I'm just about finished with this one."

"Simon? Don't think I met the guy. That's too bad you scared him off though."

"Sure. I'm up for tagging along. We need more adventures anyway. It'd be lame if that was the only story."

He smiled. "Yeah. I'll take it."

"Well, I'm not sure if I scared him off or not--I just, uh, don't know his whereabouts that night. I owe him a steak, or a beer, or something. I had...other things on my mind."

Will orders two hot dogs, leaving one plain for himself.

"Uh, hopefully you run into him again. What is he? A roomie?"

He left his plain as well and started walking back down the boardwalk.

"Bingo. He was on team one, you might have seen him at the briefing; monkey man? I dunno. Roommates, man. Still not used to having one; it can certainly be a drag."

"Oh, the guy with the tail? Yeah. I saw him around."

He chuckled. "I had to deal with the roomie thing for such a long time back at XI. So I'm more than used to it. I think I prefer having a cool roomie too. Always someone to talk to or do something with, that is, if they're around."

"I suppose I'll get used to it. At my last school, it was all private rooms. Which can be nice if you're not publicizing the fact that you're a mutant, right?"

"Exactly. You know, worse comes to worse, if you can get the money you could try and get a place off campus."

"Yeah, I suppose. That'd involve getting a job though, and with school and X-whatever, I just don't know if I'll have the time.

My parents won't spring for an apartment THAT easily"

"That's true and even if you did have the time for it, X-teams would really intefere with any sort of other work once we had to do a mission. Hey Boss, I'm calling out today. Why? Oh, I've been kidnapped and being tortured half way around the world."

He grinned. "Really sucks X-teams don't pay."

"Yeah, it'd redefine "variable scheduling", wouldn't it?

No, I'll have to spend at least a year in the dorms before I'm off on my own, unless I had, like, a bunch of people to move in with or something, and then you have the original problems again."

David walks along the water, and then wanders over to Will and Marcus, hoping they're students.

He waves as he approaches. "Hey guys."

"Uh, hey there." Will's frantically flipping through his mental rolodex, and coming up empty.

"Sorry, but I've met, like, a hundred people in the last couple days. Are you one of them?"

"I don't think so, and yeah, I'm going to have trouble remembering people's names too. Anyway, I'm David. Nice to meet you." He offers his hand.

Will returns the handshake. "Will Stanton. Nice to meet you, too. What brings you out to the riverside this morning?"

"Your power, huh? Wait, wait, don't tell me. Blue skin, blue hair....you can swell up, like Violet Beauregarde."

"I haven't seen like, a tenth of it, but it seems great. I've got to get a job though, everything fun costs, in a big city." Dave smiles, not overly concerned.
