Feb 9 - The End of the World as we Know It.

[Veronica Freud]

Veronica closed her eyes and tried to concentrate but that just made things worse. She opened her eyes wide and started singing softly to herself.
"Bangkok, Oriental setting, and the city don't know that the city is getting. The creme de la creme of the chess world in a show with everything but Yul Brynner."

"I really wish I had my player here. Music always calms me down."

[Gideon Rede]

Gideon looked rather relieved that Ronnie was getting things under control.

"Good that's good," Gideon said, "We should probably follow the others, eh?"

[Veronica Freud]

Veronica nodded and offered her hand. It only seemed right to try and keep each other calm.

"One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster, the bars are temples but the pearls ain't free...."

[Gideon Rede]

Gideon took her hand, and followed after the others.

This day just keeps getting stranger by the moment.

[Byrna Cooper]

"Not good, not good..."

Bear tried to make the grapple ball retract quicker, but with three people hanging off, it could only go so fast.

[Narrator]

As the rift shadows flew out, they started surrounding the girls... although this proved complicated due to the oddities of reality at the moment.

Still, as they passed through one ripple, Janice could feel a sense of recognition, as if someone was saying 'well there you are'. The Amulet of Right grew warm around her neck... and Captain Britain was back in business.

Meanwhile as the others came through the hole in the wall, they'd see more of the rift monsters emerging from their level of the spire, too.

[Will Stanton]

"What the hell is THAT?" Will said.

"...this is a bit out of my depths. Is the machine overloading?!"

[Veronica Freud]

"Heartless!" Veronica said with a gasp, Gideon's body responding in a very effeminate pose.

[Nick Varkan]

"Either way, we have company," he said, watching the monsters' movements.

[Janice Gilbertson]

"...okay, I need to know if you two are ready to go very fast..." Janice said, reaching up to touch the amulet.

[Byrna Cooper]

Bear nodded, Holding Malaika firmly in one arm.

"Aye Aye, Captain."

[Malaika Gabriel]

"Ready when you are." Malaika replied.

[Calvin Strong]

"Okay, this is science that... like, God might not understand completely. So let's just stick with the 'smash it' idea, okay?" Cal called back, opening fire.

[Janice Gilbertson]

Her costume shimmered around her as she bulked back up into Captain Britain. Wrapping her force field around them, she sent them barreling up, up, up!

[Rick Ferguson]

"I can do that," Rick said, powering up and rising into air, before flying at the contraption repeatedly, tackling it with the full force of his winds going with him.

[Will Stanton]

"Welcome back, Captain!" TinyWill shouted as loud as he could.

Which STILL might not be heard over the din.

[Byrna Cooper]

As a parting shot, Bear pulled out a solid steel ball and let loose, aiming for the apex of the tower.

[Narrator]

The ball impacted the tower, and a crashing could be heard high above them. Unfortunately, the rift demons swarmed them, and they really couldn't pay any attention to what happened. The demons outnumbered them, at least two to one, probably a little more. They seemed solid-like... they appeared to have mass, but to touch them, your hand would go through them as often as not. The sensation of touching them was something like being burned by ice or frozen by fire: difficult to explain, but it hurt.

[Malaika Gabriel]

Maliaka cried out in pain, and tried to shock the demons.

[Calvin Strong]

Cal was a blur of motion, determined not to be caught off guard like he'd been by Dr. Tomorrow again. He dove away from three onrushing demons, gritting his teeth as he rolled onto his back and fired up at them.

[Will Stanton]

Will frowned--he was so USELESS here, now...

[Byrna Cooper]

Bear pulled out a flash ball and tossed it amongst the shadows, hoping a bright lightburst might cause some effect on these dark creatures.

[Narrator]

As the rift demons took hits, Ronnie would be able to, through Gideon's power, feel their pain and some sort of primal fear. Their actions were chaotic... the order of creation was their antithesis, and so everything around them was their target. The gun blasts, electricity... even the flash bursts, seemed to shatter them, only for them to reform immediately, a short distance back.

[Rick Ferguson]

Rick flew right at the demons, determined to plow into as many of them as possible. He was still pissed at how easily Dr. Tomorrow had deflected him before, so he wasn't in the mood to treat any enemy with kid gloves, much less demonic beings.

[Will Stanton]

Will hopped off, and hustled towards Bear as fast as his little legs could take him.

"Closer! We need to get me past these things to the machine! Maybe I can shortcircuit it!"

[Gideon Rede]

Gideon wasn't sure what to do, and so decided when in doubt, smash. With that thought he looked around for something to beat the demons with.

[Byrna Cooper]

Bear nodded, getting a very special ball out of her satchel. Popping it open, she placed it down next to Will.

"Are you certain?" she asked, eyebrow raised.

[Will Stanton]

"No, but this is no time for that. Go!" he said, scrambling in.

[Byrna Cooper]

Bear nodded, taking the ball up, encasing it in as big a TK field as she could manage before letting loose at the raucous machine.

[Narrator]

The ball Bear threw slammed into the spire... and that's the last she saw of it. Will would feel the ball flying for an impossible distance... then it would just seem to be floating.

Back in the fight, the creatures seemed to be leery of Janice wielding the Star Scepter. She was definitely still being attacked, but they seemed hesitant to draw her attacks. This, of course, meant that more were available for everone else. Gideon, in Ronnie's body, drew more than the others, although they did seem to not want to be hit by the big piece of machinery that was being swung. Cal, Nick and Rick seemed to have pinned down a few of them, until others came up behind them and attacked, drawing their attention and forcing their companions free. Bear's momentary reprieve came to an end, as a couple came at her while she was throwing Will.

[Will Stanton]

Will popped open the ball when it stopped plummeting, and looked around cautiously.

[Narrator]

All around Will, it looked like the rifts that had been opening. There was literally nothing else he could see. As he opened the ball, he floated out. While the environment wasn't normal, it didn't seem immediately dangerous, either.

[Byrna Cooper]

Bear flipped away from the attackers, attempting to form a strategy.

In the meantime, she tossed another flash ball to slow them down.

[Will Stanton]

Step one: Will turned on his emergency beacon. Though he doubted a signal would get out this far, it MIGHT--and if he got lost, maybe the university could find out where the hell he was.

Secondly, he began to maneuver himself around via puffs of air, looking for something---anything.

[Narrator]

Location was... odd for Will. It was as if it didn't matter how far he went, he could be as close to or as far from the ball as he wanted. Regardless, though, the ball was still his only landmark.

A few minutes later, though, Will's comm gear crackled, though it didn't seem to be coming through on the school frequency.

[Will Stanton]

"Will S...err...Gwion here. Is anyone picking this up?"

[Gideon Rede]

Gideon for his part simply tried to keep the attackers from swarming him by swinging the piece of machinery, and quickly trying to smash any that closed in.

[Narrator]

"-ill? Is--- Taliesin, is----at you?" Will hadn't quite found the frequency yet, it seemed.

[Will Stanton]

Will fiddled a little bit.

"This is Will Stanton, I hear you in bits and pieces, do you copy?"

[Narrator]

"Comi- -rough a little bet---. Where are y------pposed to be in Australia for the nex- few weeks?"
