Working off dinner

Postby Derek Scott » Wed Oct 21, 2009 1:19 am

It was already getting dark, a sign of the lateness in the season, as Derek and Leila walked along the shore of the Thames. The air had a bit of a chill, though every so often a warmer breeze would blow toward them from the city.

"This is my first time down here," she told him, glad she had brought her long duster since she was only in a tube top and it was chilly outside. "This is nice," she said looking around, "its reminds me of the Boardwalk in Jersey," she said.

"It's not within view of a forest, and it's not threatening to snow, so it's still a novelty to me," Derek chuckled as they walked along, his jacket unzipped as the temperature really didn't seem to bother him.

Leila rubbed her hands together for a moment then suddenly grabbed one of his, "bah, it's cold," she smiled softly over to him. They continued walking, most of the boardwalk was closed since it was now winter, but a few places we're left open for the students. Leila could see the lights and hear the music from where they we're. As well as....she sniffed the air, "Ohhh..cotton candy," she chuckled.

Derek chuckled. "Cold? What's cold about this? This is like a nice, warm spring evening," he teased, pulling out his wallet as they approached the cotton candy vendor. "Go for it," he added, nodding toward the yummy junk food. "I've got it."

She took the cone of cotton candy the vendor handed her, "aren't you..." she picked some of the treat off the massive ball and put it to his lips, "sweet," she smirked.

Derek took a bite of the cotton candy, sucking it playfully off of her fingers. "I do my best," he chuckled as he paid the vendor. "Good to see someone notice."

She blushed a little as he sucked the sweet treat from her slender fingers. "Someone had o notice evetually," she said and they stated to walk again. They came up to the shore of the Thames and looked out over the horizon, Leila munched on her cotton candy happy. "Wow, very pretty."

"It is," Derek agreed quietly, looking over the glassy waters. As usually happened, he got a little wistful, looking at what was probably the most 'nature' he'd seen since coming to London. "God, I have to get out of the city," he chuckled.

"Same here. You know, we should get some peeps together and go camping..or as I like to call it, 'an excuse to get drunk outside'," she smirked.

"You read my mind," he chuckled. "Are you a big outdoorsy person, too? Or is your version of camping sitting in a big backyard with trucks pulled up with a keg and radios blaring? Because I can go for that, too."

"Well, the radio and the keg is a must, but otherwise I use tents and fire pits," she said, looking over to him with a smile. "What can I say, great minds think alike."

"Well, I'd like to say that you can have a very good time camping without a keg or radio, but that's more of a one-on-one trip," he said, winking at her.

"Ohhh," she said tossing the empty cotton candy cone away and turing towards him with her hands on her hips. "I think I could do that idea as well. God knows we don't need others drinking up all the beer," she said, looking into his eyes.

"Sounds good, maybe next weekend?" she asked. "Ill have to make sure to do some shopping. Liquor being the most important thing..then of course crap like sleeping bags. Unless you wanted to share something, it would create more warmth," he teased.

He smiled. "I'm down for that," he said. "And you need two sleeping bags," he added. "No room to move around unless you have two zipped together."

"Good idea," she grinned, leaning in to kiss his cheek sweetly. Her breath and lips smelled of cotton candy. "I like the way you think," she smirked, not exactly pulling away quickly enough.

Derek turned his head toward her before she could pull away. He didn't kiss her, but brushed his lips and nose tantalizingly across her cheek, in a motion that looked like it could have been accidental. "Just stick around," he said quietly, as his lips drew closer to her ear. "You might find more that you like."

Her eyes came to a gentle close as he made his little move, a shuddering breath escaping her lung in response.

Damn him, he has me acting like a schoolgirl

Leila opened her eyes and looked to him. "I think I've found plently to like," she said in a hushed voice, her lips grazing against his as she spoke.

Derek smiled slightly as his lips brushed against hers, in what was almost a kiss, then he turned her slightly with one arm behind his back. "Let's walk a little more," he murmured, a teasing glint in his eyes.

Leila narrowed her brow at him then shook her head with a smile, "sounds good to me," she said regaining her composure and walked with him along the boardwalk.

Derek kept his hand behind her back, just above and behind her hip, as they walked along the shore. "So what got you into music?" he asked conversationally, a slight smile playing at his lips. He could sense her reaction, and it only served to spur him on more. Keep her wanting more... right up until you get back to school.

Leila crossed her arms over her midsection, a hand resting on the one at her hip. She had to remember; don't give it up to easy. The last thing you need is the title of The Easiest Girl in School. "Uh, my father. He's a blues guy, plays th lap guitar. But my entire family lovs music and I was raised with a whole bunch of it. Some hair metal and 80's new wave from my sister, heavy metal and gangster rap from my big brother, altenative and old R&B from mom...." she smiled to him, "I don't think it's in my cards NOT to be a musician," she laughed.

He laughed with her, sliding his hand a little farther until it touched hers. "No, it doesn't sound like it," he agreed. "Good to have a solid basis at home to back you up, though," he mused.

Leila looked down for a moment, blushing as she felt his hand slip over hers. He was good, and she could admit that, at least she knew that much. She lifted her head up.

"Oh, yeah, my family are great--wonderful people. I'm very lucky. What about your family?" she asked.

"Dad was a park ranger," he said simply. "My mom runs a little restaurant in the downtown... it's not much, but it pays the bills and then some. Kind of a picturesque 'small town life', I guess."

She nodded, "very Norman Rockwell," she teased, her slender fingers running over the hand idolly that was on her hip.

Derek nodded. "We get along. Well, as well as you can hope, you know? No big drama, just the usual 'you stayed out too late,' 'you butt out of my life' type stuff."

"Heh, my parents are more of the 'let her make her own mistakes' type of parents. They never told me not to do anything, they just hoped I had common sense enough to ask them questions or figure it out."

"For the most part, that's what I got," Derek admitted. "There was just some frustration every so often when I wasn't home when I should have been, mom trying to stop me from getting into any trouble that would've been expensive to get out of, you know? Mostly I kept it good, though. I was too busy through the tail end of high school to get into any trouble anyway."

She chuckled, "yeah, my parents just didn't want me to come home in handcuffs, other then that, anything was trial and error," she smiled a little. Thre was a twinkle in her eyes as he mentioned high school, "man, school, don't get me started. I want to find a time travelling mutant and go back for a few more years. I had so much fun," she said.

"Well, I'm from the small town, our times tended to be near a fire in the woods or down at the lake or something like that," he said, a very deliberate sidestep around a hole in the sidewalk brushing his leg against hers.

"Very cool. There wasn't any lakes around where I live," she said. Leila more then noticed his sidestep that ended up with their legs brushing together. Leila smiled to herself and slipped an arm around his waist, resting it on his hip.
