Lumis sighs. "Oh god, not the Bishop, he is SUCH an asshole. I would talk to the Red Knight first."

"But the Bishop is the seat I have a claim to," she said. "And I'm not interested in being his friend... I'm interested in taking his place. Eventually. And discreetly."

"You're more likely to collect a knife between your third and fourth ribs talking to the Bishop right away. If you want a seat there, you need allies."

Victoria nodded. "I'll have to work on that, then," she yawned.

"I belong to the club, but I don't have a Chess rank. I DO have a lot of money and power, so the inner circle listens when I speak. They don't always do what I say, but they do at least pay attention. I'll introduce you to the Red Knight sometime, my recommendation will carry weight."

She nodded as she recalled what her mother had told her of the workings of the club's inner circle. "Well, I suppose there's nothing wrong with starting as a squire and jumping pieces when I'm ready," she reasoned.

"You might try some misdirection too. Everyone will assume you want the Bishop's spot. Make a serious bid for the Rook's position or something, to throw people off."
