May 12: Pitching Your Products for a Nominal Fee

[Will Stanton]

"Please, I am still eager to work with you..." Will said, encouraging.

[Narrator]

"Well, its an advert for dog biscuits." Ms. Jones continued "They want to have a talking dog in the ad."

[Will Stanton]

"Oh?" Will said, cringing just a tiny bit. "Cause, like, dogs are hard to work with or something?"

[Narrator]

"They'd like for the dog to eat one of their special biscuits and then get up on its hind legs and make a penalty kick." Ms. Jones went on "Obviously, this would be quite costly to do using special effects."

[Will Stanton]

"Oh, it's soccer themed? For the World Cup, then?"

[Narrator]

"We do try to be topical."

[Will Stanton]

"It's a really good idea, actually..." he mused.

"And how much was THAT ad going to be?"

[Narrator]

Again a piece of paper was pushed at Will. This number was exactly half of the previous figure.

[Will Stanton]

"...right.

Well...I mean, it's still...but then....


....was this a one-time ad, or what?"

[Narrator]

"There is always the chance of more work, but yes, its a one time ad."

[Will Stanton]

"Well...

You know what? You only live once. I'll take it," he said, swallowing his pride and smiling.

[Narrator]

"Excellent. Just sign these forms, please."

[Will Stanton]

"Right...

just standard releases and things?"

[Narrator]

"Totally bog standard contract."

[Will Stanton]

"Alright, great," Will said, flipping through it as he signed it.

[Narrator]

"Here are the reference photos that we'd like you to use, and some samples of the biscuit."

[Will Stanton]

"Fantastic," he quipped.

[Narrator]

"This is the address of the studio." Ms. Jones continued, ignoring his snark "Any other questions?"

[Will Stanton]

"No, no, that should do it. Did you have any others today, or is this all good?"

[Narrator]

"Thats all we have at the moment, yes." Mr. Peters replied "Thank you for coming in, Will."

[Will Stanton]

"Thank you, Mr. Peters. I'm sorry we couldn't come to an agreement on the first ad, but I AM looking forward to continuing to work with you in the future," he said, shaking his hand.

[Narrator]

"Excellent." Mr. Peters replied heartily "We'll look forward to seeing you at the shoot."
