I10DT - The Eyes Have It (Open)

Postby Alexander Kokinos » Mon May 21, 2012 8:28 am

Alexander decided to get in some practice with his telepathy and so was in the Danger Room, sitting cross-legged with a simulated individual opposite him. His glasses were laying in his lap and for that reason, he'd requested the Danger Room warn him when someone was going to enter and then to delay them for 10 seconds. The simulated individual was staring at his eyes, obviously fascinated as his minotaur avatar sorted through the simulated thoughts with a frown on its face. The Danger Room was trying to rabbit trail him, but so far he seemed to be analyzing the incoming thoughts fairly well and only following the correct ones. For Alexander's part, he seemed at least outwardly calm.

While he ran through the drills, a raven circled down in the Astral, eventually settling nearby.

Real or Danger Room induced distraction? His avatar didn't look up as it caught a series of thoughts and running them through its hands like sand where they merged back into the thoughts he was sifting through. It wasn't as perfect as she could have managed, but it was still good for someone his age. He snagged one in particular and held it up to look at it.

"I didn't think the simulations were quite so realistic as actual projections. Don't mind me, though."

"They're not, but I thought I would ask all the same." He tugged on the edges of the thought, expanding it to watch it replay. It seemed to be of the individual planting some sort of device on a car. He considered it for a long moment. He shook his head and collapsed the thought, pushing it back into the thought stream. "Not what I was looking for. Constructed memory in fact."

"It's programmed with a few red herrings."

"Most memories show her as right-handed, this one showed her being left-handed." He went back to sifting.

"Oh?" He went through several memories, none of which seemed to be what he was looking for.

"It means even in this simulation, you're treating it like there's a person there."

"If this were real, that would be a telepath who didn't care who they were working on."

"Whenever I'm working like this, I always work as if it's real. The alternatives are... unsavory."

"Too many telepaths almost think it's a game. Even well-meaning ones."

"I won't lie and say there's not a small element of fun to it. I do enjoy the work, but this is someone's life I could be messing with, what they classify as existence and I have to take that seriously." He snatched a memory out of the thought stream and expanded it. It showed the individual looking at some files, all of which had big red "Eyes Only" stamps on them. "That's what I'm looking for."
