Sara is in the lab, going over some things to make sure all the cryo-conservation and experimental sheets are all up to date and correct.

"Working hard, of course?" an elderly voice came from behind her.

Sara looks up at the sound of the unfamiliar voice, blinking.
"Just making sure everything's documented properly..." she says somewhat carfully.

"Ah, the careful compliance of the lab tech," he chuckled. "This your own project, or something passed down by the Lord of the Lab?"

Sara frowns faintly at being called a lab tech but she's not brazen enough to correct him. Plus she feels vaguely intimidated by the stranger.
"It's for my own project."

"Ahh, Stan's mellowed out in his old age, then?"

"Mellowed out, sir?"

"Oh, Stan and I go way back.
Dr. Quentin Watson, of Her Majesty's Government."

"Oh! I'm so sorry." she gets up and holds her hand out to him. "Sara Stanton."

"A pleasure, Mrs. Stanton.
What is it your working on at the moment, then?"

"Just tieing up some loose ends on the supplementary on my paper." she says and now a bit of pride does shine thorugh.

"A supplementary? What sort of supplementary?"

"Just some of the things I didn't go into in detail. It's all in the paper though."

"Ah, yes, I've read it. A remarkable piece of work."

"Thank you, sir. I didn't think it'd be that big. Dr Bowen send it to Nature Mutation without telling me."

"Of course he did. THAT sounds like the Stan I remember."

"How do you know Dr Bowen?"

"It's all part of the commonwealth. I had some dealings with Alpha Flight, back in the day."

"Oh. Well, I'm afraid Dr Bowen is busy right now."

"You're the budding scientist; theorize," he said, his voice adopting a businesslike tone.

"You read my paper but why would that make you come all the way here."
Re: Data Sheets

"I had some questions, actually.
Such as, how did you determine the scope of your experiments?"
Re: Data Sheets

Wed Apr 18, 2012 2:14 pm
by Sara Stanton
"The scope? We just decided on a broad range of substances without getting bogged down by getting too specific."
Re: Data Sheets

"Why wouldn't you want specifics?"
Re: Data Sheets

"Well where do you stop? With how many metals and alloys and sorts of wood there are we never would have gotten done."

"Well, without an army of researchers, you could never hope to finish.
No, I'm talking more about the endpoints of your research."

"Endpoints, sir? I am just trying to shed some light on how his shifting works."

"Let me put it to you this way.
Do you know how long the government has been looking for an all-purpose substance, very similar to that found in the cells you described?"
Re: Data Sheets

"It's not a substance. That's my husband."
Re: Data Sheets

"That's not what I meant. The cells--we've been seeking to create something with that potential for years now. Perhaps by...studying how your husband's cells work, we can learn more, and be better equipped in our own attempts."

Re: Data Sheets

"Not quite--but can you imagine the applications of a substance that we could alter to fit any needs? From bandages to repairwork--the applications would be almost endless."

"I suppose... If you could model something so complex somehow." she says, not quite sounding convinced that it could be done.
Re: Data Sheets

"Exactly. At the very least, it could bring us forward years in our research."
Re: Data Sheets

"Well it's all there in the paper."
Re: Data Sheets

"I was wondering if you'd consider...expounding on your research."
Re: Data Sheets

"Well I'm sort of still attending classes. It was just a small project that somehow grew over the summer..."

"Yes, I understand. Then again, Penicillin was discovered by accident.
I'm not asking you to do this out of the goodness of your heart--we'd fund your research, of course."
