Derek, obviously freshly woken from either sleep or a nap, blinked blearily as he opened the door in his pajama pants. "Chlo- Chloe? What's wrong?"

"What? Of course. Come on, get in here," he said, holding the door open to let her in. He was briefly aware of his shirtlessness, but rapidly decided it didn't matter.

"Thanks." Chloe said, sitting down on the couch. "Simon hasn't called for weeks, and then today, all this clothes were gone."

Derek sighed, sitting down next to her, putting an arm around her shoulders. "Ah, hell... I'm sorry, babe," he said. A million thoughts went through his mind, he went with the most prominent. "I don't want to piss you off, but... the guy's seeming like he's an idiot, I just have to say."

Now listen, because this one's important: If it's over now, if you can't get him to call you back, it's not your fault. If there's nothing else you can do, there's nothing else you can do."

"Not at the time, no." Chloe said "But I was acting purely on instinct, and my instincts are wrong. I should have realized that this was way too early for pair-bonding to occur, um, I mean that it was too early for us to get really serious."

"Look," Derek said, "Even if you didn't handle it right... that's still something that you should be able to work through. And you are willing. So... just relax. THis isn't your fault. If it's supposed to work, it'll work, ok?" He sighed, giving her a hug, not really knowing how he can make her feel better.

Derek hugged her tight, gently running his hand along her hair. "It's all right, babe," he whispered. "Whatever happens, it'll be all right, I promise. I know it doesn't feel like it now, but I promise, it'll be all right..."

"I know, babe," he said, instead of saying 'Dammit...' like he wanted to. "You always know I'm here for whatever you need. We'll get through this." Stroking her hair again, he leaned back a bit to kiss her forehead, then brushing off the tears that had smeared across her eyes against his shoulder.
