I8DT - Hung the cat up by it's tail

Nailah was sitting in the Xub, unlit cigarette hanging from the corner of her lips as she was shuffling a deck of cards, occasionally stopping to take the top one from the deck and placing it on the table in front of her.

From the booth across the way, a girl in a funky hat was occasionally stealing glances, like, totally stealthy like.

At first Nailah tries to ignore this but after a while she seems to lose her concentration. "What?" she asks, without looking up.

"Tarot?" she managed to squeak out.

Now she does look up and for the first time really notices the hat.

Oh goddess no...

"Yes, Tarot." she says with an exasperated sigh.

"Neat! Where'd you get your deck? It's REALLY nice..."

"A gift. They're hand-drawn."

"They are AMAZING. Much nicer than mine.

Can I watch?"

"If you have to. It's a free country..." she says, gathering up the cards from the previous attempt and shuffling the deck.

"Whatever will come to me." she says, putting down the first card.

"Well, like, you said you didn't have a target in mind, so it's general-future-scrying."

"Just because I don't have a target in mind doesn't mean... ah, nevermind, yeah, it's 'general scrying'." she rolls her eyes, continuing to place cards.

Nailah tries to relax and clear her head, already regretting the decision to try this here because try as she might it is not working. Not in any way that would make sense to her anyway, she's sure she could bullshit something out of the patterns she's lieing down on the table.

Raven just kept watching.

Eventually some kind of pattern seems to repeat itself but nothing that Nailah seems to be happy with. Still, The Mage, The Hanged Man, The Tower and The Devil keep showing up almost every time and in similar positions to each other.

"Ooo...that's too much major arcana...some sort of...creation, but there's the hanged man, so it's, like over--something created?

I...don't like the look of that tower. War. And....and death.

Maybe the hanged man refers to them? Like, it's over and done? Like, the past, and not, like, the future?"

"No. Well yes, that's one of the million things those cards can mean but it's not there. I'm not feeling it." she says, for a moment forgetting she is talking to someone who is wearing a god damn witch hat.

"What ARE you feeling, then?" she asked, legitimately curious

"Something, but it's just beyond my grasp, like an answer that you know you have that's at the tip of your tongue. But that's just about useless if I can't get to it."

"Perhaps Ouija would help?"

"If you prefer talking to yourself over iconography... It's all just foci anyway."

Re: I8DT - Hung the cat up by it's tail

"But isn't that what you need? A clearer focus?"

Re: I8DT - Hung the cat up by it's tail

PostPosted: Fri Dec 30, 2011 8:41 pm
by Nailah Weaver
"No you need a medium through which to focus and that is capable of expressing meaning. Paper and a pencil would do, it's all just personal preference. And of course to sell things to people. Which especially the Ouija board is. A toy. It can work but that's hardly because of the board."

"Oh, the board focuses the spirits in a way that helps the answer to what you're searching become clear."

"You want to honestly tell me that a piece of cardboard or wood will draw in spirits? Or that that would be a good idea if it actually worked?"

"It doesn't draw them in, it contacts them."

by Nailah Weaver
"What do you think contacting any spiritual being would entail. Of course it draws them in and if you actually manage to without knowing what you're doing then what you will contact isn't what you asked for but rather what had enough presence and reason for wanting to contact you. And they don't do that out of altruism."

Nailah lets out an exasperated sigh. "What spirits, pray tell, do you think you are talking to then?"

"Show me one non-fictional person of any relevance who ever wore a hat like that. You're imitating an idea. And a preposterous one at that." she says, gathering up her cards because this sure as hell isn't going to work right now.

"I wear a hat like this," she said, her voice wavering, but with just a hint of defiance backing it.
