I8DT: Should Have Brought Marshmallows

Claire walks up to one of the fire pits in the outdoor rec area. She sits down and takes out some paper, kindling and a lighter. She starts building a fire.
Once the fire has gotten a decent size, she takes her violin out of her bag. She hesitates for a moment, then she snaps the neck in half with her foot and tosses the pieces into the fire.

"Man, here I thought random bonfires on the quad were my thing," Daniel mused, looking down from about ten feet up as he watched the fire growing.

"Good point. Guess I can't be stingy," Daniel said, floating to the ground. "Expensive bonfire, though," he observed, looking at the burning... well, too small to be a guitar. Violin or something. No one played the ukelele, anyway.

"Good," he said. He reached into his bag and pulled out an Accolyte uniform. It needed mending, true, but wasn't exactly in a state that it needed to be replaced. All the same, he looked it over, hesitated for a moment, then threw it in. It took a moment for the fire to overcome the unstable molecules, but a touch of his power finally set the thing ablaze along with the other stuff.

Claire takes a seat by the fire and pulls out a bottle of cheap vodka. Pulling out the stopper she takes a swig and then offers it to Daniel.

He shrugged at that. "Well, I could say I got ordered here, but I guess that'd only be half true," he admitted. "Could've gone back to Genosha when the job was done. So... partly for love. Part because... hm. I don't really know if I trust people back home anymore."

"It happens. What sucks is when you don't have anyone you can trust anywhere." He considered it a minute. "They don't always have to like you, thank God. Which helps, since I'm kind of an asshole."

"Trust is tricky," Claire says, taking a swig from her bottle of vodka, "It's not always about trusting someone. In fact, a lot of the time it isn't."
"Can you trust yourself? That's the real thing," Claire says, a little bitterly, "Someone who doesn't trust themselves, doesn't trust anyone. They look at the world and can't help but see themselves in it."

"Depends on how you look at things. If people can trust you, it can help you trust yourself, and that makes it easier to trust people," Daniel reasoned. He looked her over for a minute. "So... obvious question, then... why don't you trust yourself?"
