Ayami was having lunch!

John walked up.

"Hey Ayami... Can we talk?"

[Ayami Morita]

"John?

Uh, sure."

[John Hino]

He took a seat across from her.

"So... Like the new look?" he smirked.

[Ayami Morita]

"You looked better in black."

[John Hino]

"I feel better though. Because... well... in a way you were right. I had let my emotions get so walled off they might as well not have been there."

[Ayami Morita]

Ayami just nodded.

[John Hino]

"I've made a decision to be less guarded from now on, and it seems my armor was a manifestation of my fears as much anything. I let it down, and... I felt the sun..." he said, smiling warmly, "I really felt it Ayami. For the first time in my life."

[Ayami Morita]

"Is that so?" she said, still eating.

[John Hino]

"It was... amazing..."

[Ayami Morita]

"Well, I'm glad for you."

[John Hino]

"Thanks. And for what it's worth, I'm sorry about how things ended... between us."

[Ayami Morita]

"Yeah...yeah, I bet you are," she said, a note of anger appearing in her voice.

[John Hino]

"I was in a bad place," he sighed, "But that's no excuse, is it?"

[Ayami Morita]

"YOU were in a bad place?" she said, incredulously.

[John Hino]

Open mouth, insert foot.

"Not that my problems compare to yours."

Wait... damn... Insert other foot.

[Ayami Morita]

"Of course they do, John.

You just didn't realize it. Or anything else.


If you'll excuse me..." she said, standing up.

[John Hino]

He sighed.

And I still do it.

Clearly he need to try harder at this "New John" thing.

He went after her. "Ayami wait. You're right. My life sucked, plain and simple. I was so busy being strong for everyone else that I forgot to care for myself or even just speak my mind. And what have I gotten for it? An ex-girlfriend who hates me and a sister who avoids me."

[Ayami Morita]

"That's life, lizardlips. Sometimes you just have to suck it up."

[John Hino]

"You do realize that sucking it up is exactly my problem?"

[Ayami Morita]

"No. No, it's not."

[John Hino]

"Then tell me. You sure seem to know."

[Ayami Morita]

"The problem is I don't think you DO care. About anything. Even a little bit. You have no depth, whatsoever, John."

[John Hino]

"You don't think I care? My mother, my father, murdered in cold blood and you don't think I care?!" he shouted angrily, "And that's really rich coming from you. You're only as deep as the people around you!"

[Ayami Morita]

"You didn't care. You didn't. And that's why I'm disgusted with you.

Good DAY, John."

[John Hino]

"I don't know why I even try with you. I couldn't have changed your mind even if I slit my own throat."

[Ayami Morita]

"You go on believing that John. John the innocent, John the pure. Don't make me laugh."

[John Hino]

"Would a pure man want to kill someone?" he answered.

[Ayami Morita]

"Like you ever did. Your entire reaction was one. Big. Shrug.

We're through, John. Stop trying to use me as, I don't know, some sort of platonic idol. I've seen what you are, and you disgust me.

NOW, if you'll EXCUSE me."

[John Hino]

"Likewise," he answered with disgust as he stepped away.
