Daniel made his way directly to his room from the XUB, moving quickly and locking the door behind him. God damn it, he thought, falling onto the bed and, for the first time, really considering transferring back to Genosha.

Daniel stopped, took a deep breath, then turned around. "Why'd you always chase off the other girls that would show any interest in me?" he asked. "No making excuses bullshit this time," he added, "Why. Yes, I have a point here." He didn't sound angry, he didn't sound accusing. He sounded kind of tired, and... something else.

"Well, there's the difference," Daniel said. And like another recent day, he was circling her now, keeping his eyes on her. "And I guess maybe it's my problem," he added. "See... there's always been one biiiig truth for me. That your feelings are more important than mine. Lets me get over lots of things you've done. And lately, it's made me do things I hate, like telling that girl your boy dumped for you that no, she wasn't going to go after you for revenge or something, an that I sure as hell wasn't going to help her."

Daniel thought about it for a moment. "Don't know if I caught her name, I've only met her the once. Blonde hair, little shorter than you... it's on top of my mind, just take the picture from it," he said, momentarily sidetracked from what he'd been saying.

And it was all right there. Was he angry a lot lately? Hostile? Sure. And the reason under it all, was just how much it absolutely hurt, because of how absolutely much she mattered to him. It was that familiar feeling that struck a chord right where she could always feel him in her mind, where she'd always been able to feel how much he loved her, that feeling that she was absolutely everything to him, almost the only person that mattered at all to him, and definitely the most important.

And this time he didn't step forward, just waited for it to hit her.
