May 8th - Late Afternoon

Postby Averi Cheng » Mon Jan 10, 2011 4:56 am

Averi was leaning back rather comfortably in the seat at her booth. She hadn't even toucher her drink as she had far too much to think about.

And now comes the Lord of Atlantis, skin shimmering with the eternal sheen of water, hair flowing in the grip of currents not present. He entered the XUB, walking steadily purposefully toward the bar to order a drink.. the best that one could expect in a place like this, he'd been told. He sat with his drink, surveying the room until his eyes rested upon Averi, a smile touching his lips as he raised his glass respectfully in her direction.

Averi managed to catch sight of the gesture and smiled. She nodded her head, acknowledging it. Her eyes wandered over his features briefly from the distance as her smile grew wider. ..He's quite the looker.

Zeryn made a gesture to the waiter on staff, who really didn't look pleased with being ordered about, and a slightly animated (on the waiter's end) discussion ensued. As the man walked off to fill whatever order Zeryn had placed, Zeryin looked over at Averi again, making an unmistakeable "would you care to join me?" gesture at his table.

She moved up rather elegantly from her table, immediately accepting the offer. She had no reason not to. Some conversation could do her some good anyway. "Thank you," Averi said once she reached the boy and took a seat.

Zeryn stood politely as she approached, holding her seat out for her, and only sitting once she was herself sitting. "You honor my," he said, bowing gracefully toward her before taking his seat. "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Zeryn, of the southern Equatorial currents." He paused a moment, then added, "What you would call one of the realms of Atlantis." He had learned that it sped up understanding to add this sometimes.

"Oh. Thank you again.." She said, surprised at the boy's manners. "It is a pleasure to meet you Zeryn. I am Averi." She giggled to herself a bit embarrassed. "I must say..I don't know much of the realms of Atlantis. I've always heard of it as the 'Lost City'. I would of never expected to meet someone from there!" She sounded very surprised.

"Mmm... our history tells us that it was, some millenia ago, lost from the surface world, but we've known exactly where it is ever since," he answered with a smile. "Although truly, most of your kind will not meet any of my people... walking upon the surface generally requires as much cumbersome preparation for us as sinking to the depths of the ocean does for your people."

The expression did nothing to hide her general fascination. "Really? Do tell." She asked curiously. "I suppose breathing is probably the biggest issue?"

"It is," he admitted. "Likewise, the sad limitation to standing upon the ground that being surrounded by air presents. Most of all, I believe that most of my people simply feel exposed without the water's warm embrace around us... although I don't know that many would realize this."

"How would we?" She smiled. "I mean...I love swimming but I could only do it for so long." She took a sip of her drink. "So what brings you to the university? I would think it must be because of something really important to bring you all this way. Let alone to go through that preparation."

"Mmmm... I'm doing much the same thing you are. I am a mutant, as you may be able to guess from the lack of any breathing equipment, and my father wished me to become familiar with the ways of the surface world."
