Issue 1 Downtime

Sara knocks on the door and enters the office of Lumis' secretary. "Hello? Sorry to come here so late in the evening, but something happened."

It takes a few minutes, but the door is opened by Lumis. He's on the phone, and says a few words in Chinese before hanging up.

"Come on in. I'm working late, but I sent Denise home a long time ago."

Sara nods. "I wouldn't have come by so late if I didn't think it was important."

She tells him about what she saw from the rooftop and the events sorrounding the 'ghost dog'

"...and then it just... disappeared into thin air without a trace, but I don't think it was dead, so I was worried it might still be around and came over here after dropping John off at the infirmary."

"Another one. Damn. Have a seat if you want." Lumis sits on Denise's desk. "How badly hurt is Genbu?"

"He seemed fine, although I think he was a bit surprised that it managed to hurt him at all and it was hard to tell how badly he was hurt under his carapace." As she's talking she suddenly seems to remember something. "Oh and he mention something I couldn't make anything of. He said he 'got more from it than it from him'."

"Hmmm, well hopefully the infirmary staff will be able to figure out exactly what that means for him."

Sara nods. "Do you think this is related to the changeling that attacked Will?"

"I can't say for sure, but I hope so because otherwise we have two causes to deal with."

"Plus it'd mean I got a shot in at the same group of people that hurt Will..." she can't help but smile grimly, a very unusual expression for her. Turning around to get ready to leave she suddenly turns back around. "Do you think there's a connection between the things that attacked and the people they went for? The wolf bit through John's skin and the Marcus clone sucked away Will's strength. Maybe I'm seeing things, but it almost seems like the two were chosen for one paticular person..."

"We can't rule it out, but I'd need more evidence for that. It's possible the creatures were just really dangerous."

"How... reassuring. I guess people will just have to be careful for now..."

Lumis nods. "Like I said, report anything, even if it doesn't seem dangerous, that's overly strange. Hopefully we can stop the next one before it starts."

Sara nods. "Well, I'll leave you to your buisness again. Good night, sir."

"Stay safe. Good job coming to Genbu's rescue."

"Thank you." Smiling Sara heads out the door Sara, closing it behind her.

[[Sept 12 - Early Afternoon]]

Once again Sara finds herself knocking on Lumis' door and enters, Zach in tow.

Greeting his secretary she steps up to her desk. "Hello Miss. Is Lumis around?"

Denise nods. "Yes, he's in, just a minute, let me see if he's busy." Her eyes go unfocused for a moment, then she looks up at Sara.

"Go ahead and go on in."

"Thanks." She goes to knock on the door to Lumis' office out of courtesy before opening it.

"Afternoon, sir. Uhm... something's happened again."

Lumis waves Sara and Zach in. "Another weird occurance?"

"Yeah, although it's kind of the same to the first. It's propably best if Zach just shows you."

"I'll get right too." Once he retrieved Sara's phone, he made the connection he needed to include Lumis and began the playback. Showing everything that happened not only from the attack in the arcade, but the sighting of the elf and it spraying John.

"There it all is."

"Hmm, it seems like these things are getting stronger. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. We'll add it to the pile. How is Genbu doing?"

"He seemed fine. Mostly just acting like he was drunk."
Sara hesitates for a moment before carrying on. "Sir, if those are really fey, then how much of the old tales are true?"

"I honestly don't know. This has never been my area of expertise. All I can say is that magic exists, it's rare, and it's weird, but it's not terribly powerful, it gets by mostly by being surprising and working via oddball methods."

"In other words chances are about equal for something being real or a made-up tale."

"Even if that's so, we're on the end of disadvantage. I mean, no one even noticed that thing until it had shifted and interacted with students. It appears that it's powerful enough to cause harm."

"Oh, they can cause harm, certainly. And while you probably won't see anything that's exactly like an old tale, those old tales probably hold some truth. The problem is that they were retold as oral stories and so a lot was changed over time."

"But they usually have to be more tricky than just bullying you with pure power."

"Somehow the idea of something sneaking up unnoticed and trieing to harm you with not-quite-understood tricks doesn't sound better than something powerful charging you in full view, but maybe that's just me."

"Well the upside is that when you do finally confront it, it can't generally stand up to you."

"I see.." He looked down. "So, does this mean the next time we come across one we should go all out on it?" He glanced off to the side. "Maybe we can at least communicate with one of them and ask them what's going on."

"If we can find some that'd talk to us. I do have one idea, but it's far shot and propably not worth it."

"What would that be Sara?"

"Communication is preferable to fighting, yes. But if you get into a fight, drop it hard and fast."

"Well I know that one story says some of them are watching over the old dolmens, standing stones, like Stonehenge, and I think they live deep in the ground, but I'm not sure. It's been years since I last heard those tales."

"So..if we went maybe we'd find them there? At the least, maybe I can try using my power to find some sort of way into where they live. I think I need a break though." He placed a hand to his head, still not quite grasping the reality of the situation.

"Well, if they're there at all I'd find a way, even if there wasn't one. I'm just not sure if it's worth it. Or even a good idea to go rummaging through their territoy."

"A trip like that would be up to Lumis then. Worse comes to worse, I can keep using my power to track that Elf back to wherever it was hiding. We have a problem though if it can see us. Actually, it having seen it before it maybe even more aware of my power." He thought about it. "I guess I can just watch it from wherever I'm standing."

"I'm not going to authorize a trip right now, as we don't have any idea what we're dealing with. I don't want you to walk into a large group of magical beings, or into the lair of a powerful sorcerer or something. I think a group will be going out soon, however."

"You're propably right. I guess I just don't like having no idea what's going on."

"I just want that Sorcerer we called in to evaluate things first, and make sure it even has an outside source. It might be localized to the campus."
