On the left we have all the memories---and on the right, we have all the dreams. That's really our MOST important job--separating them out, you know. You wouldn't want to think a dream is really happening!

....or would you? Because we can do that?"

"Now, the LARGE bins are common ones--things we think about all the time, recurring dreams, things like that. The SMALLER ones are fr less common ones, and so on, and the single ones are things we just thought of, like, once, you know? The color also kinda indicates things, but you know, there's all kinds of multiple layers of these things, so watch out."

She nods. "So that's just determined by how many of that memory shows up? Like, you just get a larger bin when you get too many?"

There were a couple bins of dark black, brown gumballs--they certainly didn't LOOK appetizing. At all.

Sara shudders at imagining getting a dose of those memories (and because she's not 'splintered' obviously a helping of the fitting emotions as well)

Do you think that WILL be a problem?" she said, suddenly worried. "Like, he'll have too many memories?"

"Well sure. Like... Say he walks through the city and sees, like, a dozen different cars. If you asked him at the end of the day he might remember them, right? So they would have been dumped in here. But after a day or two he wouldn't be able to recall them. Because they're not important. But if he doesn't happen to recall things like that they'll just pile keep piling up. Things he would be able to recall but ultimately doesn't. You can't just cram ALL of that into his dreams. The world is full of things we forget about because they don't mean anything, you know?"

"And that's why you need a garbage chute or an incinerator or something. Or else you'll have memories of cars and random pedestrians and what the weather was like a year ago lining these walls eventually. But if it's not important or is refreshed or called upon then eventually you gotta get rid of it. Only every once in a while, but wouldn't it be terrible if you couldn't find something important because it was buried under piles of unimportant things?"

"Hey, calm down. You're the ones in charge here, right? All you have to do is put in an incinerator. And then when a single memory goes unused for too long you dump it in." she says, hoping the need for 'garbage disposal' will make one manifest in time for her to sneak a couple of Mel-related memories into it.

The bins were huge, but, hey, this was a mental dream...thing. She could get quiiite a few of them stuck there in her pockets.

She didn't take all of them because, well, when he hadn't remembered what happened that wasn't all that great, but she does take quite a bunch. She can worry about getting rid of them later.
