A broad smile spread across the little man's features as Victoria spotted him. Perhaps a little too wide.

"What's the matter?" she asks, looking over her shoulder to see what Vickie is looking at.

The man's smile didn't falter, though he did offer the sphinx a 'tip of the hat' gesture.

The little man reached into his coat pocket, and drew out a black envelope.

As neither of them was approaching him, the little man simply shrugged, and put the envelope away. His grin still fixed, he casually walked behind the tree.

Fully expecting him to be gone Nailah takes a couple of steps to get a better look behind the tree.

The magical landscape seemed... porous. Not like a sponge, but more like something that had been burrowed through, forging connections to other areas that were slowly healing. It wasn't like ley lines, as those would be a presence of new energy flowing. This was more... an absence. It felt unnatural, but was subsiding.

Nailah shudders.

"We should've moved faster," Victoria said simply. "Now we don't know for sure what it wanted." She did, however, have a good guess.

It was hard to tell. Some of the burrows seemed less than stable. They all seemed to branch out from one larger one that just seemed to reach... beyond. In a straight line from that one was an older one, which was beginning to clear up, but headed towards the student dorms. This seemed to have been the original destination of the larger tunnel, but more burrowing had widened it out, prior to branching out into fresher ones.

Nailah turned and took a couple steps towards the dorms, narrowing her eyes.

"Third story, 6th window from the right. Do you know who's dorm that is?" she asks, looking up towards a window with curtains that would look very familiar to Victoria.

Victoria swallowed and nodded, scowling up at her room. "I had... more than a few little incursions of things that were... more curious than was healthy about Vivien. One thing got in, not sure what it was, and then... after I shore up my wards the N'Garai came knocking to try to get in. One of Chthon's other nasty little creations... hell. If there's even remotely a chance that I'll get to give that bastard a bloody nose, I'm in with this mess."

"Pride?" Victoria gave Nailah a disbelieving, almost insulted look. "Oh, they took much more from me than pride. But no... this is about the fact that some things need very, very much to not be in this world. This is about creatures destroying lives, families, childhoods, souls, and the fact that someone has to make them pay for it." She unconsciously glanced to where the dwarf had been. "And it's also personal. But that isn't a bad thing."

Nailah nods, deciding not to press the issue of just what Victoria is talking about. Not that anyone should need particular reason to fights these unnatural beings.

"Especially when there aren't many who can stand up to them."

"At the very least we can be somewhat sure that this isn't going to involve one of the big names in our world this time. At least except as a third party that we can apply the whole 'enemy of our enemy is our friend' idea to until these bastards are taken care of."

"That's all we can hope for," Victoria said. "The Darkhold can't be destroyed. The book itself was destroyed, but the pages are the scrolls set down by Chthon, and nothing can destroy the knowledge of an elder god. And Chthon... well, the greatest sorcerers of the day, possibly of all time, tried to banish him back in the days of Camelot. All they could manage was to bind him under Mount Wundagore."

"Now, his little followers? That's another story."
