Summer - Decisions

[Nailah Weaver]

"No. I won't escape this now, I embraced it too much for that. But I... I'm having trouble finding meaning in what I used to do here. To me all this feels a lifetime away." she says, gesturing at the paperwork.

[Sean Hall]

"You're helping prepare the next generation of mutants," Sean said, "Maybe that sounds a bit cliche, but most of the students here look up to mutants who've proven that we can have careers outside of wearing spandex."

[Nailah Weaver]

Her thoughts snap to Trev for a moment. Sure he had a crush on her but it didn't seem that was what the disappointment was stemming from when she had told him she may not continue to teach... Twice she'd seen what a world with the wrong role-models could become. She had always tried to set a good example, especially towards dealing with humans, as fruitless as it often was. Did she really grow that jaded? Would she still walk out of the University of Illinois with her head held high, knowing that she'd been the better person?

"It doesn't sound cliche. A little idealistic maybe." she smiles faintly.

[Sean Hall]

"Maybe a little idealism is what we need?" Sean asked, "To help us deal with things like what happened in the grove or here at the school. Remind us that we're here to make things better?"

[Nailah Weaver]

"I just don't know if I'm the person to provide that anymore. If I still can be that person."

[Sean Hall]

"You turned me to the right path, so maybe you are. Maybe it's just hard to see," Sean smiled.

[Nailah Weaver]

"A lot of things are right now, though I don't need my shrink to tell me that I can't see my own future because I'm failing to make a decision."


"But thanks. You helped remind me of some things that used to be important." she adds after a moment.

"You're welcome," Sean said, "Think I also needed the reminder that are still things worth working towards."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Always. It can just be hard to figure out what those things are."

[Sean Hall]

Sean nodded.

"I think I have at least a vague idea," Sean said, "Doubt either of them would have wanted me to wander aimlessly and doubt my new teacher will be quite so patient."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Just drifting along is not a good place to be, no. You need something to hang on to."

[Sean Hall]

"I think I'll try to hang on to hope," Sean said, "And that next time I will be able to do something to help.

And certainly you can throw in something about making the world a better place for mutants. Because even without an x-gene I should try to help. Might need something less abstract to hold onto..."

"I wish I could help you there."

[Sean Hall]

"It's something I'll have to figure out for myself," Sean said, "But I think I'm pointed in the right direction at the very least."

"And don't hesitate to come and ask for advice. I reckon I'm at least good for that much."

[Sean Hall]

"You have been so far, Nailah," Sean said, "I wouldn't be so sure that's all you're good for. You proved that back at the grove."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Too early to give up just yet, yes." she chuckles weakly.

[Sean Hall]

"We're not allowed to give up," Sean said with a weak smile.

[Nailah Weaver]

At that Nailah visibly shudders and it feels like a cloud just passed over the sun, for a moment plunging things into shadows.

"No... No, sometimes we really aren't..."

Sean's hand clenched tightly around the hilt of his sword when he experienced the strange sensation.

"Light will always come," Sean said, "Darkness just seems to get there first, but light always comes to pierce it."

[Nailah Weaver]

"There's that idealism again." she smiles faintly though it seems a little forced.

[Sean Hall]

Sean removed his hand from his sword after a moment

"Some would call it being naive," Sean said, "I like idealistic better."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Some would, yeah..." Wouldn't you have too a couple weeks ago? She pushes the thought aside. "Then again, insulting students is a little frowned upon, wouldn't you say."

[Sean Hall]

"At this school? Possibly given some of the students ability to fight off invading aliens," Sean smiled. "But you're a friend as well as a teacher, so in this situation I suppose you could."

[Nailah Weaver]

"I'm not even your teacher right now." she realizes. Though your mind sure jumped to it almost out of reflex, didn't it?

[Sean Hall]

"Doesn't mean you stopped teaching," Sean said

[Nailah Weaver]

She chuckles faintly. "Yeah, maybe you're right."

"I'm a mage," Sean smiled, "We are known for our incredible insights."
