May 19th - Recuperating

[Nailah Weaver]

"I didn't mean to complain." she smiles softly.

[Samantha McManus]

"It's an honest thing to look at, though. I do try to shelter you."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Maybe with reason until now. If you hadn't rushed after me..." She breaks off to stop herself from falling into that line of thought again. They had just managed to get away from it a little.

[Samantha McManus]

"I know I shouldn't ask what happened before I arrived..."

[Nailah Weaver]

And what little resolve (or maybe it was just denial) had been on Nailah's face drains away.

"Don't... Please..."

[Samantha McManus]

"...aye, I won't."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Even if I had the courage to relive and answer that y-you... you wouldn't want to know."

[Samantha McManus]

"And that's why I wouldn't want to have to keep something like that from you, if you had me erase that."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Yeah... that wouldn't be fair to you."

[Samantha McManus]

"Just... keeps coming back to that," she sighed.

[Nailah Weaver]

"It's hard to push aside. Just gotta... keep trying, if only so we can get some sleep at night."

[Samantha McManus]

"Once you're feeling up to it... I've really got some frustrations I might work out in the Danger Room. How does that sound to you?"

[Nailah Weaver]

"Pretty good actually. I doubt it could hurt either way."

[Samantha McManus]

"No shame in a little catharsis, aye?"

[Nailah Weaver]

Nailah just nods.

[Samantha McManus]

"And maybe that's today, maybe that's tomorrow, maybe even further out. It doesn't matter."

"Just so long as I get to hold you in my arms tonight, the whole world can wait."

"I'd say lets work on that first." she smiles faintly.

[Samantha McManus]

"And I don't care if you wake me up with visions or with nightmares. I just want to be there."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Let's still hope for neither. God knows both of us could use some sleep..."

[Samantha McManus]

"Aye, but I'm not going to flatter myself into thinking I'm wholly proof against nightmares."

[Nailah Weaver]

"It's going to be a rough night, isn't it?" she sighs a little.

[Samantha McManus]

"Easier for me with you here, at least. Someone to hold on to, aye?"

[Nailah Weaver]

"I doubt I would get any sleep by myself." she nods.

[Samantha McManus]

"So I'll resign myself to my role as a provider of body heat," she smirked.

[Nailah Weaver]

"Don't play yourself down. You're so much more than that to me."

[Samantha McManus]

"And I think rather higher of you than just someone who clogs my drains, but we could use a little humor, aye?"

[Nailah Weaver]

"I know... It still just sounded wrong." she smiles wryly.

[Samantha McManus]

"Should I swing the pendulum the other way in my pet names?" She chuckled.

[Nailah Weaver]

"Don't. They're endearing. I'm just not in the right head-space at the moment you know?" she smiles faintly.

[Samantha McManus]

"Are you certain? I'm primed for purple prose."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Just don't be disappointed if I don't appreciate them as much as they should be appreciated." she chuckles weakly. "God knows I could use the distraction."
