Taking Command of Things

Theresa knocked loudly on the door to Dee's workshop, realizing she had to compete with whatever noise happened to be going on in there.

What's going on at the moment seems to be loud music and some kind of grinder.

After a few knocks, there's finally a muffled "Alright, alright. Keep your trousers on!" and the grinder at least is shut off. Footsteps head towards the door.

Theresa seems to be having trouble schooling a raised eyebrow back into place as she waits at the door. "Sorry to disturb you, Dr. Quinn," she preemptively apologizes through the door.

"It's alright," she says as she opens the door. She's got a welding mask flipped up, and is wearing singed and grease-stained overalls.

"Not one of the usual suspects, eh? What can I do for you?"

"I was told you were the one to talk to about the jets," she said, "And for starters, no, I haven't inadvertently damaged one of them."

"Bonus points for that, then." She smirks.

"What about the jets?"

"What sort of diabolical apprenticeship would I need to enter into to entice you to teach me how to fly them?"

"Well, you'll need to bring me the ashes of a hanged man, a black goat, and spent wax from a cathedral," she deadpans.

"Oh wait, I'm not Weaver, so it's more that I'll be expecting you to log some time with me in the simulator so you don't wreck my babies," she smirks again.

"I have absolutely no problem with that. I'm hoping it will help me with my own flying if I understand some of how it works with proper aircraft."

"Ah that's right, you're the Junior Miss Munroe, aren't you?"

"Definitely want to start you out on some smaller craft once we get you up in the air. Airflow gets... somewhat interesting, at the speeds the jets can do."

"I don't know that I'd rate myself even as her 'Junior', but that's me. I find it's frequently nice to understand the 'why' of the stuff I'm screwing with."

"There's no need for modesty, really. Takes a certain amount of brazenness to fly a jet, or just to fly in general."

"Just hard to be compared to the original is all," she chuckled. "I've been known to exhibit a certain amount of brazenness from time-to-time."

"I certainly wouldn't say no to that," Theresa said with a smile she couldn't quite hide.

"Meet me at the hangar in fifteen minutes, then. If you look ill, I'm turning the jet back around," she chuckles.

"I made it across the Atlantic in coach without losing my lunch, so I think I'll be fine," she said. "Unless you're planning on some high grade aerobatics."

A short bit later, Dee heads into the hangar. She's swapped her overalls for a clean flight suit. Walking up to one of the jets, she activates a key-fob and ascends the gangplank to start her pre-flight check.

Not actually having a flight suit, Theresa opted for her training uniform. She walked towards the jet that has its gangplank down, assuming that's the one Dee may be on.

"Lesson one," she says as she hears footsteps, not looking up from what she's checking.

"Don't let anyone check out a plane for you. You're the one who'll be flying it, you're the one who needs to be confident it'll perform."

"Similar to how I'd never rely on someone else's weather forecast going into a mission," she said with a nod, moving up to Dee to see what she was doing.

Dee has a tablet hooked up to the console, and is tapping through various diagnostics, looking up at the console instrumentation periodically to compare to what the tablet is telling her.

"This is a bit fancier than the old Cessna we'll be taking you out in once you've logged some simulator time, but there has to be some incentive to wait for the good toys."

"Sounds good. Rushing tends to lead to problems anyway," she said, making mental notes.

"You're going to want to strap in," she says, gesturing to the seat next to her.

Theresa sat down and strapped in, "The harness here is a bit different from the one's back in the passenger area."

"Different stresses, different angles of force. I could tell you the specifics, but it'd bore you."

She disconnects the tablet and flips a few switches, taking the yoke. Outside the plane the amount of light increases as the ceiling of the hangar opens up.

"No second thoughts?"

"I went through my second thoughts before I knocked on your door," Theresa smirked.

"On to the fun part, then."

The VTOL turbines in the jet engage, taking them up and out of the hangar. After they are a safe distance upwards, she spins up the main engines, carrying them out over the water and gaining more altitude.

Theresa's eyes flared a bit as she watched the flow around the jet as they headed out over the water before she focused back on the instruments in front of her. "Sky looks decently normal at least."

"I might have been able to make it otherwise, so long as you didn't mind things being a little hairy for a few days afterward. Everything has to work itself back out after you stir it up." To her credit, riding in the jet didn't seem to be bothering Theresa at all.

"Very good. I actually try not to make big adjustments unless I have too. Little things, a cloud here or a little rain there isn't *as* big a deal, but you try not to do too much. Not unlike flying this thing I would imagine."

"Probably more than most on staff, but I tend to prefer something a bit smaller."
