Issue 1 Downtime

The Danger Room was set up as an underground fighting rink. It was a lot like you'd expect, in the basement on an abandoned building, a cheering and jeering crowd, an apparent betting operation going on in a corner.

There was a fight about to start. One of the contestants was Nash, he was up against a bald guy who was covered in tattoos and made of muscle. Baldy also had about one foot and around seventy to eighty pounds on Nash. The crowd apparently had already decided who they thought would win.

"Come on Mauler, get this over with quick. we wanna see a real fight." Yelled a voice from the crowd.

"Mash 'im Mauly." screamed another voice.

A curious Maya hesitantly enters the room. She stands just outside the door and watches the goings-ons.

No one seemed to notice Maya. The door is at the top of some stairs giving her a good if somewhat distant view of what is serving as a rink.

The announcer makes his way to the center of the ring.

"And now for the next event, we have a new challenger in his first fight at our fine establishment."

A few laughs could be heard from the crowd.

"In this corner we have our new challenger, who is going by the name Snake!"

Boo's and various jeers could be heard from the crowd while Nash just stood there quietly.
Maya might or might not recognize him from the capture the flag game or just from around campus.

"In the other corner we have one of the Steel Pitt's favorites, Mac the Maaauuuuler!"

The crowd erupted into cheers. Mauler was flexing and showing off.

For some reason, Maya claps lightly. She likes to go along with things.

The ref makes his way to the center and motions for the fighters to approach.

"Now I could ask you two for a good clean fight."

More laughs come from the cloud.

"Of course that's not how things work in the Pitt."

The crowd cheers.

"Lets get this fight on." The ref says as he takes a few steps back.

The Mauler then speaks up "I'll take it easy on you since you're new. If you ask nicely I'll only pound half your face into mush."

Nash's only response was a glare.

Maya watches with curiosity. She would never admit it, but she loves a good fight.

Depending on what Maya considers a good fight she might not be going to get it.

"So, that's how you want it?!" Mauler yells.

He then throws a strong right hook that would do some damage if it connected.

Maya winces.

The punch doesn't connect as Nash moves just enough to dodge it. Nash then responds with a 'karate chop' to the inside of Mauler's elbow.

Maya's phone beeps. She checks her message. It's a spam message. She quickly deletes it and puts her phone away.

Mauler pulls his arm back, and shakes it.

"Want to try that again punk?"

He throws a series of three quick jabs at Nash in rapid succession.

Nash rolling his torso in a circular motion dodges the first, deflects the second with a chop, but only has time to block the third.

Mauler growled, then rushed at Nash and tried to grab him.

Nash took a step back and was able to redirect Mauler into flying past him. That sent Mauler barreling into the crowd, lucky for Maya she wasn't down there.

It might have been a mistake on Nash part anyway though, the people now getting up didn't look too happy about it.
