Issue 1 Downtime

Melissa had been a little bummed when her scheduled training time had been pre-empted. Normally she preferred to practice this sort of thing in the isolation of the Danger Room. Less outside mental interference made it easier to focus on what she was doing. With that denied to her, she'd gone to the top of the lighthouse and was sitting crosslegged. The glow of her telekinesis shimmered off and on as her mental presence also flickered in the Astral, the two abilities overlapping ever so slightly as she tried desperately to do both at once. Of course, this also made it look like there was some sort of blinking light at the top of the lighthouse.

Melissa might hear someone walking up the stairs of the light house, though she would likely detect the approaching person with her telepathy first.

Melissa let them approach, maintaining her focus. She didn't recognize the mind, but it didn't necessarily feel unfriendly, so she didn't change her posture.

Charlie made it to the top and noticed the cause of the flashing.

Its a person?

"A person just like anyone else around here," Melissa said out loud. "What brings you to the top of the lighthouse?"

"Oh, hi. I saw a light flashing on and off and wondered what it was."

"Just me practicing," Melissa said. "I glow a bit when I use some of my abilities. Sorry if it worried you."

"It didn't, I was just curious."

"I'd normally do this in the Danger Room, but it's all locked up for the night for some reason."

"Hmm... maybe it needs maintenance?"

"All they said was potential power issues. Which is kind of weird."

"I guess so, though I haven't been here long enough to tell if that isn't normal."

"I haven't been here long myself, but it seems unusual," Melissa said with a shrug. "So where did you come from?"

"Dundee." She paused for a second before adding "In Scotland."

"That's nice. I haven't had a chance to visit Scotland yet. Did you like it there?"

"Yes, I'd still be there if I didn't think I needed to learn to control my powers."

"This is one of the best places to do that. Part of me wishes I'd been able to go to the Institute growing up."

"How did you learn your powers then?"

"My mother had similar powers and taught me how to use mine."

"How did you like that?"

"It had some good moments. But she was my mother, so not being able to get away from your teacher at the end of the day sort of stank."

"I guess so."

"So what is it you do?"

"Probability manipulation, but apparently unlike any they've seen before."

"That's a rough power to pin down."
