Miranda was hanging out with Kay in the Danger Room, resting on Kay's beach program and sunning in the not-sun of the Danger Room. "Did you ever think about leaving here?"

"Like, for a vacation?" she asks, looking up from where she's lieing at the edge of the water.

"Sure," Miranda said, adjusting her position to make her wings more comfortable.

"I am kinda curious about Europe and stuff... It'd be neat to see more of the world than just Maldon."

Miranda nodded thoughtfully. "You ever think about what you'll be doing once you're through with school?"

"Hmm... Not really. I'm not really good at anything but drawing silly stuff and I don't think anybody's gonna pay me for that..."

"You'd probably be surprised, and you're better at drawing than you give yourself credit for."

"Maybe. But there's lots of people who try to do that, so maybe I should do something safer..."

"If you can't do what you love doing, what's the point of doing anything else?"

"I dunno. My dad hates working at the factory but he does it anyway."

Miranda frowned, wanting to comment, but not wanting to start a fight by badmouthing Kay's family. "You have some possibilities, all I'm saying is you should chase them."

"Well yeah, I mean I definitely don't wanna end up like my dad..."

"I don't really think you have to worry about that specific outcome."

"Well no, but still... You're right, I should do something I enjoy."

"Everyone should, but I realize I'm a raging idealist."

She snickers. "Yeah, but you make a lot of sense too."

"Tell that to Mom," she said with a shrug.

"Yeah, well, your mom is kinda weird sometimes. And, like, super strict."

"Majoring on the weird lately. I didn't say this, but there are times I regret agreeing to the legal parent thing."

"Really? That bad?" she asks, sitting up in the surf and looking over at Miranda.

"There are times. It's not all bad, mind you," Miranda said without looking over. "But yeah... there's just some things." She shook her head. "I'm sorry, I'm ruining the evening."

"No, it's alright. I'm just sorry to hear that, I guess..."

"And it feels really shitty to say when you've had so much trouble with your family."

"I got a new family here though." she smiles. "I'd rather have everyone here than my actual family."

Miranda made a dismissive noise. "I'm not that cool."

"Oh yeah, you can only see into other places and stuff and fly. Well, you probably will eventually? But your wings make you look awesome either way. All mysterious and intriguing."

Miranda 'looked away' at the comment about flying, "There's very little mysterious about me."

"No, I'm not alright, but you're fine. Sorry I'm being such a wet blanket."

"You're not a wet blanket. Besides, I like water. What's wrong?"

She seemed to spend some time debating. "I managed flying a few times, but..." She sighed, "My wings aren't working anymore. I can still move them, they don't hurt or anything, I just can't make them work."

"Really? That sucks... Did you lose too many feathers or something? Or maybe you gotta build up more muscles for them?" she says, scooting over to Miranda.

"I don't know. And after a bit, I just sort of stopped caring. Probably just something like my eyes where they were busted to begin with."

"Maybe. Flying wasn't something I'd gotten used to though, so it's not a big deal."

"If you say so..." she says, running her hand over Miranda's wing.
