Issue 1 Downtime

The Danger Room is active and the inside is pitch-black. That is, it would be if it wasn't for the bio-luminescent jellyfish slowly drifting through the void. And in between Kay is slowly drifting through them. The control panel shows that she's almost two kilometers below the surface of her tropical island simulation.

A chime sounds, indicating someone in the observation deck. "Hi, Kay," Miranda says, taking a seat.

"Miri!" she says, sounding a little muffled as the room translate her watery-noises into speech, waving in a random direction.

"You're pretty deep in," she comments. "Everything okay in there?"

"Yeah!" she smiles. "I had bit of a headache once I got past the first mile but I'm fine now. It was pretty spooky too, but then I found these guys here."

"They are pretty cool looking. I bet you could explore all sorts of cool stuff."

"Yeah, it's incredible. Here, check this out..." she says, flicking her legs and propelling herself through the water towards a particularly big jellyfish. Kay seems to aimlessly wave her arms around until suddenly the almost invisible tentacles of the creature light up in all kinds of colors, starting where Kay touched them and travelling down along the length of the thin tendrils before turning dark again.

"Neat! Didn't it sting you though? I thought that's what jellyfish did."

"Hmm... No, it didn't. Maybe it's not all jellyfish?" she says, curiously running her hand through the tentacles again.

"Computer, show the observation deck." she says, swimming over when the window with Miranda in it appears in the illuminated darkness. "Everything alright?"

"Honestly? No. Old family issues. It's hard to explain and make any sort of sense." Miranda was wearing her hood pulled down over her eyes and Kay could see she was also wearing the binding over her eyes again.

"The computer tells me there's a lot of pressure in here right now, but that's nothing compared to having to explain Christmas to somebody." she snickers.

"Oh it's fine, I didn't mean it like that." she smiles. "I just hope your first ever Christmas will be magical, even if you're too old to believe there's actually a fat man coming down the chimney to bring you presents."

Kay smiles brightly and puts her hand on the glass as well. After a couple seconds she seems to realize what she's doing and dashes backwards through the somewhat shadowy waters to hide the fact that she's blushing. "I'll... be right out, okay? I'm done with my training anyway." she mumbles.

"Nah, it's fine. I'm, like, way ahead on all my power control homework cause it's super easy." she says as she swims upwards and out of view of the observation deck.

When she gets close to the surface she just says "Computer, end the program." and she suddenly stands in an empty room. After a couple of seconds though she starts to look kind of worried and she gasps for air, the gills on the side of her neck flaring noticeably.

Kay tries to talk but instead there's just more gasping for air and coughing.

The room instantly fills with water and Kay immediately takes a deep 'breath', a stream of small air bubbles rising from her gills.

"T-thank... What was that?"

"Yeah I couldn't get any air! And I don't think so, I always go up pretty fast..."

Ryan came skidding around the corner into the observation deck, ready to do some sort of override, but calmed down when he didn't see anyone bleeding out or otherwise dying. "Did you send a page out?"
