Issue 1 Downtime

Nailah steps into the Danger Room, having changed into something slightly more suited for fighting, though flowing fabric is still the main component.

Samantha followed her, dressed in decidedly less, though preserving modesty in her usual ways.

"It's your dance, love. What are you in the mood for?"

"Something simple and straightforward. Jail-break scenario?"

"Are we the ones doing the breaking?" She grinned.

"Seems almost too easy." she says with a flap of her wings. "Unless you had a twist in mind?"

"It's your stress relief, love. I'm just along because I like your style."

"Prison break and riot it is." she says, scrolling through the room's scenarios until she picks one and the room turns into the San Francisco Bay with Sam and Nailah standing on the northern tip of Alcatraz Island. "Regular prison inmates with a small randomized selection of mutants." she tells the computer and an alarm echos across the island.

"Ah, a riot, you do love me," she chuckled, taking a few breaths as she got a feel for the violence that was just breaking out.

"Suppose that's kind of like homefield advantage." she chuckles faintly as she takes to the air.

"Simply adds a certain frisson," she said before breaking up into the flock and following.

As they approach the actual prison Sam would sense a short but violent struggle nearby in one of the guard-towers, quickly followed by a gun-shot ringing out just as Nailah folds her wings and dives out of the way.

"Someone wants to play," came with a mental laugh as the flock wheeled, circling towards the guard tower.

On top of the tower is an inmate holding a rifle and a dead guard. Seeing the flock of birds suddenly change direction towards him seems to take him by surprise and he stops trying to follow Nailah with the barrel of the gun, instead trying to blindly shoot at one of the birds.

Meanwhile Nailah sets down at the foot of the tower.

The flock mobbed the man, flapping and pecking, until suddenly there was a fist in the midst of it all, aimed squarely at his jaw.

The inmate manages to get a single panicked shot off that goes wide before he's reduced to flailing his arms against the whirlwind of claws and beaks. The last thing he expects is a punch and even if he did he probably wouldn't have managed to dodge it. It connects flawlessly and after half a pirouette he falls to the ground in a heap.

Her form coalescing, she scooped up the gun with some disdain, and tossed it out towards the ocean rocks, looking down at Nailah after.

Nailah apparently had headed into the base of the guard-tower, as evidenced by the burst of flames shooting out the open door. A couple seconds later hurried and panicked footsteps are coming up towards Sam from inside the tower.

Samantha positioned herself just to the side of the top of the stairs, poised to strike.

It doesn't take more than a couple seconds and the first inmate comes out of the door from the stairwell.

And found a redhead barreling into him, bull-rushing him hopefully back down the stairs.

He certainly didn't expect that and he looks very surprised as he goes tumbling down the stairs with a scream. His buddy who was coming up behind him barely manages to sidestep him by pushing himself against the railing. At least until a blur of feathers comes up from below and yanks him upwards, the two disappearing through a skylight window with a crash.

Samantha grinned at the sight, tumbling with the prisoner and rolling to yank him into one of the landing walls.

The inmate slams into the railing and tilts forward as the railing slowly gives, falling onto the next lower landing and crumbling into a heap.

Meanwhile there's a scream outside, followed by another inmate crashing through one of the windows and into the guard-post. He's momentarily followed by Nailah who manages a much more graceful landing.

Meanwhile, one of the other guard towers has been taken, an inmate with a rifle taking aim at Nailah.

Samantha stalked her way down the stairs, listening for signs of activity.

Nailah seems to either not notice or not to care and when the gunshot rings out it becomes evident why. The bullet suddenly slows down a couple feet away from her, caught in a faint shimmer of magic until it comes to a full stop an inch away from her. Turning around she looks at the bullet, puts a finger on it and says a single strange sounding word and the bullet goes hurling back to where it came from.

The bottom of the tower is relatively quiet itself but there's a lot of noise coming through the door leading out and into the prison complex. It's propped partially open and it appears to be a hallway leading towards a big hall of some sort.

The man is hit in the shoulder, not far from where he'd braced the gun. Swearing under his breath, he called to the mob below. "There's trouble! Get Angelo!"

Samantha dashed down the hallway, ready to wade into the thick of it.

It's the mess hall and the riot is probably thickest here. Just as Sam runs into the room one of the guards nearby is tackled to the ground by a bunch of small brown imp-like creatures that punch and rip at him.

Nailah takes a running start and jumps out of the window, spreading her wings. Flying towards the other guard-tower her hand seems to immolate and she throws a stream of flames at the top of the tower.
