Orientation night - Peaceful, easy feelings (right?)

The site of the recently restored Braddock Lighthouse. Aircraft hangars and other X-Men facilities, including a Cerebra unit and the Danger Room have been constructed around the foundations of the lighthouse.

Ryan chuckled. "Oh, there are a few that are great. And there are also a few who like spreading rumors that I'm sleeping with my co-teacher, and others that just want to resist everything I tell them to do..." He shook his head. "Well, let's just say I'm regretting every time I gave a teacher a hard time in high school."

Ryan chuckled a little. "That's sweet of you. Even if not entirely realistic."

"So what brought you down here? I don't catch people down on the shore much."

"I like to believe even the most unrealistic sings can happen." She motions to the shoreline. "Shells. It is somesing I used to do in Nice. Zee stories zat can be seen from even zee most simplest off objects is fascinating and sometimes heartwarming. It is also a way off training, I suppose."

Ryan smiled at that. "I wish my training was that relaxing. Well, mostly relaxing." He hesitated a second. "Well, all right, some of my training. I don't think I'd trade learning to fly for anything."

She grins. "Physically flying is somesing zat would be amazing. I can't imagine zee rush." She knew the rush; she'd picked up feathers before and seen things from a bird's eye view. It was something that could never be described unless one experienced it.

"You mean...?" She paused for a moment. It was clear she couldn't hide her interest and excitement at the prospect of actually doing it.

Without a second thought, she accepts his help and takes his hand to stand. This was going to be awesome.

Ryan took her hand, pulling her to her feet. "All right. Just hang on around my neck. And no matter how noisy the wind is, don't yell into my ear, all right?"

"Alright. You will be able to hear?" She zips her pockets, not wanting anything to have the potential of falling out; especially her journal. She pauses before wrapping her arms around his neck. Just keep your cool. Don't be an idiot. Finally, she holds on.

Ryan leaned over and scooped her up, his arm under her knees and the other wrapped around her back. "I'll be able to hear you, don't worry," he said. "Now... are you ready?" He gave her a second to answer, but smirked and took them into the air with a few heavy flaps of his wings before she had a chance to answer.

"Y-" And her answer was cut short as they flew into the air. Rather than shut her eyes, she took a peek around at the ground now getting lower and lower beneath them. She smiled wide, enjoying the thrill of the beginnings of the adrenaline rush.

Ryan swooped them down low over the water, then climbed up higher. "It's always better doing this at night... when we get too high, it can get too bright during the day. Too many clouds over England," he mused, leaning his head toward her as he did so that his voice didn't have far to carry. "Not going too fast for you, am I?"

Nodding in understanding about the clouds, she grins wide, answering to him in a normal voice while leaning her head towards his in turn. Seems she listened to him earlier. "Zis is amazing! Non, non! You are perfectly fine." She seems to be having a blast.

"All right," he said with a grin. "Just hang on tight." He dove at the water, swooping to pick up speed as he flapped furiously. His skin began to glow as they began to go faster. And just to see if she was paying attention, he tucked his wings in and spun them in the air for a second before they snapped out again, sending them higher.

As she hangs on, she bursts into a bit of a giggle fit once they pick up speed. As he spins them, she hangs on just a bit tighter, but it's clear that she's placed her trust in him and she's not worried about falling at any point. Her hanging on tighter is likely just so that he knows she listened to him. Sure, she had 'seen' what flying was like when touching feathers, but she had realized it was nothing compared to actually being a part of it.

"Well... if you really like this," Ryan teased, "I suppose I could do this..." His wings burst into light, and suddenly they were surging forward. This was obviously not his wings carrying them now, though they did seem to be steering them.

She laughs more, the smile on her face like that of a child on Christmas, her eyes glittering with excitement. "Holy sh-" Unable to even finish the statement, the adrenaline rush seems to take her breath away at this point.

Ryan, who'd been taking them up higher, noticed this and dropped them back down again. He leaned his head over again toward her ear. "If I start going too fast or high for you to breathe, just squeeze harder," he said.

She lets one hand loose and waves it dismissively. Apparently she's having way too much fun to even care about altitude being an issue with breathing. She to his own ear in turn, speaking softly so she knows for sure she's not yelling. "I have hiked along many mountains in my country to see zee sights. Zee heights will not be an issue, I sink. But I sank you for zee concern." She still has a look of absolute joy on her face, her eyes looking around the area with excitement as they travel.

"Well, I want to make sure you have fun. Suffocating might work against that a little, you know?" he teased as he picked up the speed again, shooting up away from the ground again. She looks good with the wind in her hair...

Each time he picks up speed, she laughs. It's like a roller coaster when it dips along large heights and rises up; you can't help but laugh from the stomach drop. "I am having a blast, Ryan." And she truly was. This was the most fun she had had in ages, and it showed. Most of the times she had traveled or gone to explore, it was on her own or under the thumb of her parents. To be able to experience something so breathtaking with someone else, well, it was exciting to say the least.

Ryan grinned and gave her a little squeeze before he took a dive. He leaned in, accidentally brushing his cheek against hers as he leveled out. "Next time dress warmer... the view above the clouds is perfect," he told her.

Whatever he said, she didn't hear it. The touch of his cheek against hers proceeded to cause the purple hue to her eyes, and she looked lost in a moment of time. To her, it seemed like a long time, but it would likely have been just a matter of seconds to him. When her eyes turn back to their green color, she looks at him and says a simple statement. "No matter how you may feel at times, you are not alone, Ryan." It came out before she could stop herself from saying it. Good one, Veronica. Way to think about things before you say them.

Ryan looked at her, his reflection a little 'what the hell?' for a moment. Then it dawned on him. "Oh, you... yeah," he forced a smile at that as he considered what she might have seen. "Get a glimpse of my sob story?"

"It's not what I saw. It's what I felt." She says softly, looking at him seriously. "No one is ever truly alone in zis world. You proved that to me, and I'd like to sink zat it remains true to everyone, including zee very one make me realize zis."

"Well, there's speaking on them, and there's dwelling," he said. "And at a moment when I'm actually feeling good? It'd feel more like dwelling," he said, cruising at a lower speed so he could actually look at her while they talked.

"I personally believe in living for zee moment. If you feel such sings would be dwelling, then move on to zee moment in time you feel good and relish in it. Life is too short to live in zee past." She smiles at him.
