Not So Dangerous

The site of the recently restored Braddock Lighthouse. Aircraft hangars and other X-Men facilities, including a Cerebra unit and the Danger Room have been constructed around the foundations of the lighthouse.

Not So Dangerous

Postby Nash Riley » Mon Jul 29, 2013 8:19 pm

The Danger Room was cordoned off, the door partially shut. It was locked in place and only opened wide enough for a series of cables to snake their way inside from a room across the hall. If you were to get inside you could see the cables led to a series of work lights, which were the only things keeping the place illuminated. A good bit of the rooms guts were on display as several more wall panels were now removed, apparently non violently, as they were still intact and stacked in a corner.

Also inside were several people tasked with getting the Danger Room operational again. Judging by the state on the room this was going to take some time.

Nash was at the area where the panels were removed, pulling out a mass of burnt and melted wire. “Are we sure she didn't dimension shift back in here and blast it a few more times, I swear its worse than I remember it.”

Will, (still black, if now with regular hair once again), entered the room.

"Cables always seem to snarl out where you least expect them to, as well. This is a disaster."

Nash finished removing the batch of wires he was working on before turning around to look at Will.
"Yeah, this is just going to take way longer than I expected now that I have taken a better look. Hopefully we should still have all the damage parts out before the replaceme..."

At first Nash's was surprised, even after that passed he still wondered just what to say or if he should even say anything t all. Which of course means he just sat there awkwardly.

"Um...Oh, yea. Before the replacement parts arrive. So we should be ready to install them when they get here."

"Good! Get it up and running again as soon as possible, that's what I always say.

So. What do YOU think's going on here?"

"I've got no clue, I find it more confusing the more I think about it. The only thing that really stands out is having one small device that can be any number of other things, useful maybe, but that is about it."

"But by itself, it can't be used as a weapon, can it?" Will considered.

"Actually it probably could in a way, just not a terribly good one. Instead of modeling something you could just have it put out an all out hard light blast in a given direction. You'd be limited your power source and the maximum output of the single emitter. Considering the emitters horrible energy efficiency you'd be better off to steal something like a military grade plasma gun, repuslor, or laser. With our thief's dimension shifting abilities I don't see why that wouldn't be possible."

"I know, I know.

So, if it would be easier for them to steal a weapon if this was going to be weaponized, what IS it good for? What can it do that other things can't?" Will mused.

"When Nick mentioned using it to frame someone he might have been on to something. I'm not saying that exactly, but they could use it to fake something. Sure they could edit video with the right computers and software, but doing it interactive and around unsuspecting people would make it more believable."

“That is going to vary a good bit depending on what they create. There are three main things that will effect it, the total surface area , the mass, and the difference in temperature from the surroundings. They probably won't be able to use conventional power sources, but a suitable one should be easily attainable, high tech power supplies capable of powering it are publicly available if expensive. If what they are creating is small a single person could easily carry it in a purse or briefcase. If they are going real big they are going to need a van or a truck.”

“We could try and detect it when it is being used. The problem is any detection method would be short ranged, and we have no idea where or when it will be used. We can still try and have some detectors nearby for anything that might be a likely target." He waited just a second. "I have no idea what those would be, I figure we have other people that might have some ideas though.”

“A good first stage would be like John mentioned in the meeting, to look for its unique radiation signature. I have a few ideas for something that might be able to detect what if anything is being projected if we know it is nearby.”
