Issue 1 Downtime

Miranda had made a last minute trip down to Maldon to pick up something for Kay. She had just left a clothing store, leaving behind a slightly bewildered clerk wondering how the 'blind girl' could properly pick out an article of clothing. She was now standing in line at the bakery, waiting for her turn to buy something to munch on before catching the bus back to the school.

There's a weird sensation of air being displaced behind her and a couple feet behind her she can hear somebody's confused muttering about somebody having cut in line in front of him somehow. Behind Miranda is a woman somewhere in her twenties with red hair and the hint of horns sticking out from her hair wearing a trenchcoat-like jacket in a style that seems ever so slightly out of place.

"Hey kiddo." she smiles at Miranda.

Miranda glanced back at her, a frown crossing her face. "Hi," she said. She turned back to face forward, but the woman would still get the sense that she was being watched.

"My name's Aria I'm... a friend of your parents." Miranda would be able to tell that the woman's not quite telling the truth but she's not being particularly malicious about it. She just seems to enjoy being mysterious and less-than-straightforward.

"Especially as regards people that I don't know who seem to know about me."

"I'm a friend of the family. And everyone's a stranger the first time they meet." she says as they get to the front of the line. "A bag of scones, a hot chocolate and a cup of black tea please." she tells the cashier, ordering for the two of them and putting down a crumpled up wad of cash on the register.

"And I'm supposed to take your word that you're a friend?" She stepped aside, tense.

"You could call mom or mum, but I have a better idea. Let's go to the last place someone who meant you any harm would want to be." she says as she picks up their order and places a hand on Miranda's shoulder. She takes a step and the world suddenly takes a plunge and folds in on itself as they take a step around a crease in space and come out inside Sam and Nailah's apartment.

Miranda stepped quickly away from her, shedding her coat as she did so before whirling on Aria. Her brow furrowed, "What are you playing at?"

"People who didn't have your best interest at heart would piss their pants just stepping foot in here. I'm just showing you that you got nothing to fear from me." she says, letting herself fall down on the couch in what would be Miranda's spot. "I just wanna talk, see if yer doing alright. Think of me... as your big sister!" she grins. There's a certain familiarity in the way she seems to address Miranda and move around the apartment.

"The last 'person' that implied kinship to me turned out to be a bastard," she said, "So you'll forgive me if I don't take words at face value." Still, she seemed to relax slightly.

"That really depends on who you ask. I generally mean well though!" she adds with a raised finger for emphasis.

She made a thoughtful noise and sipped at her cocoa, watching Aria. "Road to hell..."

Returning home, Samantha steps into the apartment.

She eyes the two, blinking.

"...I suppose this was inevitable."

"Oh hey, speaking of complications!" she grins at Sam as a greeting.

"Hey, Mum," Miranda said, seeming to relax further as Sam didn't seem to be too shocked by Aria's presence.
