Issue 1 Downtime

Two girls in hoodies raised more than a few eyebrows as the girls went about their Christmas shopping in Maldon. "So I'm hoping that I can get the piece done and then get your help with coloring it before Christmas."

"Totally. The arts and crafts store is left past the H&M in a side-street. They're kinda small but they have a bunch of things and they're pretty okay with mutants." she says, pointing the way.

"Sounds like a good place to start, I..." She paused, "Let's go around this way." She pointed in a slightly different direction.

Not one to turn down a hug Kay hugs Miranda back. "You had me worried a little." she admits. "But up until that happened the Astral was pretty cool, right?"

Miranda shrugged and reached out to hold Kay's hand as they walked around the corner towards the art store. "Everyone has a hard time with their stuff I think. Although given how pissed Mom was after we get back, maybe Haley did have something to do with it. Either way, not my stuff to worry about."

"Yeah, guess that's true..." she says, tugging on her hood to hide the fact that she blushes a little when Miranda grabs her hand. "I dunno. I just breathe underwater. Hard to mess that up, I guess."

"I imagine there's more to you than you know just yet," Miranda says, moving out of the way a bit to make room for another shopper on the sidewalk.

"Maybe..." she says, kind of glad Miranda missed her demonstration of her spikes. "Not everyone's X-Man material."

"No, just that this might be all that is to my mutation." she says, her voice getting a little quieter towards the end as they pass by some people walking the other direction.

"Who says there's anything wrong with that?" Miranda said, seeming not to notice Kay's reluctance as they finally arrived at the art store.

Miranda just glanced at Kay as they entered, a mostly unreadable expression on what was visible of her face. Once they were out of the cold and in the warm store, Miranda shed her coat but kept her hood up. "I need something sizeable enough to draw on. The sketchbook isn't big enough for what I have in mind."

"They have all kinds of paper over here." she says, happy to change the topic. She gives the store owner a friendly wave before heading over to the shelves of construction paper and sheets of paper.

Miranda peruses the sheets of paper, scratching her nose as she considers them. She pulled out her sketchbook and showed Kay the rough sketch. "It's basically Mum and Mom with me in front of them. I want it to be bigger than this, but not too big."

"Hmm... I wouldn't make it too huge. I think that'd work best somewhere between letter and poster size." she says, pulling out a sheet of moderately sized drawing paper.

Miranda tilted her head and Kay would get the mental impression that she was visualizing the image on the paper. It was entirely possible that Miranda wasn't being careful with her mental filter. After a moment, she said, "Yeah, that will work."

"Umm... yeah, I suppose that's part of it," she said verbally. "I guess I didn't tell you about the telepath bit." Her mental tone was sheepish.
