Against his better judgment, John had caved and agreed to go into town with Bear to try to have a good time. Being in a bar full of innocent bystanders made him want to turn tail and run back to campus.

"Here we go!"

Bear pulled him up to the bar, clearing off two seats and plopping him down in one, before daintily taking the seat next to him. The fact that she had positioned a giant green lizard-man next to a hippie in full view of the entire bar did not seem to bother her too much.

"Dos sleeman's, por favor!"

"And what'll you be drinking?" he joked weakly. He hated being afraid of himself. Maybe if he drank enough he wouldn't be for a while.

"Here. Take it slow tonight, good looking. I'm here to make you have fun."

She passed him his beer, kissing him on the cheek as she did so.

Good looking... right.

The kissed silenced the thought.

"I'll try..."

"Do or do not. There is no try."

She giggled, snuggling g up against his side.

"Do you know why we are here? Because I adore you. And I trust you."

"Yes, adore. I'm the luckiest girl in England right now."

"Lucky enough to be with my ugly mug," he muttered with some disbelief. He still couldn't wrap his mind around how well their relationship was going.

"If by ugly, you mean totally not ugly."

She sipped her drink, smiling.

"I know things are tough, but you've come so far from when we left Kraven's hunting ground.."

"Not far enough Bear. Nowhere near far enough."

"Then we keep working at it. I know you are a good mutant, John. And I'll make sure you know it, too."

"If anyone can convince me it's you," he smiled weakly. A song started that was good to dance to.

"Come on, big, green and mopey. Let's get moving and shaking!"

Smiling, she grabbed him by the hands, and pulled him to the open area used for dancing.

She began shimmying and shaking, moving to the beat.

He hesitantly began to move with her but was obviously not feeling it, though he appreciated her efforts to cheer him up. She was wonderful that way. He realized in that moment that he adored her too.

Bear kept him busy, dancing about with abandon. She lost herself to the music, but took John around for the ride.

John kept up with her to the best of his limited ability, and was immensely grateful when a slow song stated. Though he towered over her, he held her close. He was feeling better.

Bear almost disappeared under his large frame, but she still made her presence felt, hugging and slowly moving to the song.

She was happy. And knowing John was feeling better made her more so.

"I love you..." he let slip, barely audible over the noise in the pub.

Bear hugged him tighter.

"You shouldn't go throwing that about.. We've been dating for a month." She said, looking his way with a smile.

His expression sank from sheer embarrassment. "S-sorry..."

She smiled warmly, giving him a kiss.

"Try it again later. When you are absolutely sure."

"Try to keep up!" She said, smiling.

He did try, and he did almost bowl someone over with his tail.

"Sorry!" he called out.

"Ok, let's find a bit more room..."

Bear led him to a quieter, less crowded area, just as another slow song came on.

"Much better.." She said, putting her head on his shoulder.

"No, thank you."
