Downtown: An Apartment Complex

[Narrator]

If Calvin chose to go to the address in the PM, he'd find himself at a shabby apartment building. It was run down and from the lack of cars out front and general shabbiness, it was highly suspect anyone actually lived there. Graffiti decorated the walls and several of the windows looked like they had been broken from the inside.

The door to the building was locked, but there was a working buzzer.

[Calvin Strong]

"Wow. Mansion-envy much?" Cal said, looking up at the building. "Welp, time to get this over with..." And he pushed the buzzer.

[Narrator]

There was a brief pause and then a quiet voice came in over the intercom, "....Yes?"

[Christine Bowen]

Christie stood quietly behind Cal, looking around for danger.

[Calvin Strong]

"I forgot the massage oil. Hope you aren't disappointed," he shot back over the intercom.

[Narrator]

"....One moment."

There was some muffled shouting in the background for a moment. Apparently, the intercom had been left on.

"...I'll come let you in."

After a few minutes, there was some clicks as the door was unlocked. Finally it was opened by Bruiser. "Bruiser" was probably shorter than either Christine or Calvin at five-foot nothing. He was dressed like a stereotypical nerd, in a button up short sleeve, earth toned sweater vest, slacks, and shiny, impeccable shoes. His hair was all slicked to one side and his glasses were polished to perfection. The creepy thing about him was that everything was perfect. There was not a single wrinkle, spot of dirt, or hair out of place.

"Come on in," Bruiser says.

[Christine Bowen]

"Why don't you come outside, troll." Christie said.

[Narrator]

Bruiser looks disgusted, "If I was harassing you people, I would have the common decency not to butcher the English language doing it."

"The person you want is upstairs, in their room," Bruiser says.

[Christine Bowen]

"Then send them out."

[Calvin Strong]

"Hey, I don't mind getting the wrong guy. You saw those pictures. Y'know, I don't like all of those guys... some of them are douchebags, but they're our douchebags. And my fucking girlfriend was there, asshole. SO grab your whole posse if you want, and we'll do this right now."

[Narrator]

"Then send them out."

Bruiser just laughs, "Yeah. That'll be the day."

"Either come in or stay out there. I don't particularly care," Bruiser says, holding the door open and looking impatient.

[Calvin Strong]

Cal looked at Christie. "Think if we start beating him around, they'll come out?"

[Christine Bowen]

"Worth a try."

[Narrator]

"I think you'll be sorely disappointed," Bruiser says, stepping through the door, "But if you really wish for an altercation."

Bruiser adjusts his glasses and a monstrous, glowing silhouette appears around him.

[Calvin Strong]

Full-spectrum scan. What the hell am I looking at.

"You impressed yet?" he asked Christie.

[Christine Bowen]

"Oh, boy, super-strengh" Christie said with a grin "How will a little thing like me ever, ever cope."

[Narrator]

Surrounding Bruiser was some sort of biological electromagnetic field. It was capable of generating incredible amounts of force and could repel a great deal of damage.

"Let me tell you both something," Bruiser says, "Ariel and our den mother might think that the lot of you are just misguided and that we simply need to reach some sort of compromise."

"I am of a different opinion on the matter."

The silhouette swings one of its arms, trying to swat Christine aside.

[Christine Bowen]

Christie raised her arm and easily blocked the blow. Then she punched Bruiser.

[Narrator]

The hit rocked the silhouette back a bit, but Bruiser himself looked unfazed.

"You see, I think that the Institute is little more than a brainwashing facility. A front for SHIELD so they can make good little mutants who'll save the world from whatever mess the humans cook up," Bruiser says, punching at Christine again.

Meanwhile, someone was Tweeting Cal:

[Calvin Strong]

"Oh, you don't want to ask me about paranoid bullshit like that," Cal growled. "But you? You're just a prick that likes to hit kids." And with that, he pushed past Christie to give him an electric blast. Let's see if he's as tough when you disrupt that energy field...

[Christine Bowen]

Christie ducked the punch, and then tried to foot sweep him.

[Narrator]

The electricity fritzed his shields, but only for less than a millisecond. Without his enhanced senses, Cal probably wouldn't have even noticed it had done anything. If he wanted to disrupt the shield, he'd need a bigger blast. A much bigger blast.

Christine managed to topple him, but he caught himself with the field and charged forward. Bruiser slammed into a car and knocked it over before righting himself and turning back to face Christine.

"You're both just good little tin soldiers," Bruiser says.

"Keep talking." Christie said "Tell me more about how awesome you are."

[Calvin Strong]

Electricity crackled around Cal, gathered in, charged from within, collecting around his real hand. Dammit dammit dammit dammit I hate this I hate this I hate this "I HATE YOU!" he shouted, letting out a powerful blast of lightning at the asshole that had been picking on his not-friends.

[Narrator]

The blast electrified the field for a moment and then it popped like a bubble. Bruiser's eyes widened, looking terrified.

[Calvin Strong]

"Who's the big man now, asshole!" Cal panted.

[Christine Bowen]

Christie reached down and grabbed Bruiser, holding him up by his shirt "Now, I want you to say that you're sorry for being a pathetic little racist shit head." she said, shaking him a little.

[Calvin Strong]

"And a bully. Seriously, what the fuck, asshole. Like we don't get that enough from the flatscans."

[Narrator]

"No, no, no!" Bruiser cries out, having a panic attack, "Don't touch me! Please!"

"Apologize, and I'll put you down, pig."

[Narrator]

"Stop it!" a girl's voice cried out from the door, "Just let him go. Please!"

Scream Queen stood at the door, looking like she was about to cry.

[Christine Bowen]

"Not so tough when people can fight back." Christie said in disgust.

[Calvin Strong]

"Just put him down," Cal said. He looked up at the apartment. "So! Anyone else want to pick on kids at our school and then talk shit about it? I've got more left, who's next!"

[Christine Bowen]

"Once the asshole say's he's sorry." Christie said, not letting him go.

[Narrator]

Bruiser had started hyperventilating and was quickly turning a dark red.

"You've beat him, isn't that enough?" Scream Queen asks, "Please. He's not well."

"Fine." Christie said, tossing him towards the door.

[Narrator]

Scream Queen ducks out of the way, narrowly dodging Bruiser flying into the door and knocking it off its hinges.

"What are you doing?" Scream Queen says, "That's our home!"

"Stop being assholes." Christie said "Come to XI, and you won't have to live in this pigsty."

[Narrator]

"So I can hang around nice people like you two?" Scream Queen says, "No thanks."

With that, she retreats back into the door. Presumably to go check on Bruiser.

[Christine Bowen]

"Yeah, like you guys have room to talk about 'nice'." Christie sneered "Ok, lets get out of here."
