Issue 1 Downtime

Kay is rifling through her locker during lunch break, busy stuffing her math books and homework into the back. She pulls out her drawing pad and a case of pencils to put into her backpack instead, along with a crappy MP3 player and her flip-phone. She's humming to herself and clearly in good spirits, excited that she's just one last class away from the weekend and a sweet bonfire party.

"How's it going, Kay?" Theresa asked as she headed down the hallway towards a class of her own.

"Resa! Going great. Did you see there's a party thing tomorrow? With, like, a bonfire and stuff! Are you gonna be there or are you too cool to hang out in the same place as us lowly highschoolers?" she grins, needling her a bit.

"I'll probably lower myself to attend," she said with a good-natured grin. "If nothing else, someone needs to make sure it doesn't rain the party out."

"Oh yeah, they totally are! I helped pull her sister's bike out of the ocean. I didn't see her but the bike looked messed uuuuup."

"Good point! I need to advertise or something so people in exotic beach locations can call me in. The North Sea is boring. There aren't even any mermaids. Just snake people that get innocent people banned from swimming out too far."

"Earlier this year. Mister Gabriel got attacked and I had to promise not to go out too far in case they're still out there. Not like I could totally outrun them or anything." she rolls her eyes.

"Maybe you weren't though. Maybe I'm just not a good girlfriend. I am kind of a cold fish." she says, lifting up the fin on her lower arm with two fingers and letting it flop back against her arm.

"Nope. Pretty sure I was the asshole," she said, shaking her head. "You're a fine girlfriend, Kay. Maybe you just haven't found the right person yet."

"Okay..." she relents with a hint of a smile. "But counterpoint." She flaps her fin a couple more times for emphasis while looking at Theresa with the most serious 'Do you see what I mean' expression she can muster while trying to hold in her laughter.
