Alan settled in a music room, eyeing the piano for a moment before beginning to play. He played softly and was obviously a little rusty, but the rust wore off pretty quickly.

Vertie moved along the corridor, taking a shortcut to the gym, hearing the piano she stopped in the doorway and listened with her bag over her shoulder.

Alan kept playing for a bit and then seemed to get distracted by something in the air, his playing faltering for a bit before he shook his head and went back to playing. Vertie's phone buzzed with a text message.

How's that?

She fished around her pockets and bag before finding the rudely buzzing device. "Shh..' She whispered not wanting to distract the piano player. She looked over the screen and sent a text.

I think you may have a wrong number.
Who's this?

You sure this isn't Gar? I thought for sure I had the right number.

"Poop.."Vertie said softly.

Nopey nope. Vertie.

I can let him know you need to talk to him.

"Something wrong?" Alan asked, glancing over his shoulder.

Crap. Sorry. I didn't think I had your number. I definitely sent that to Gar.

"Hmm, sorry. I don't have all the setting figured out on this thing yet. Someone looking for my brother...maybe work. I didn't mean to bother you." She typed as she spoke, a skill all "normal" teen girls had, right?

No big.
I'll let him know.

"I can bury it in my bag now. You don't have to stop playing."

Okay. This is Melissa.

"Did they think they'd sent it somewhere else?"

"Our phones look the same. I just grabbed his by accident." She looked a the screen once more.

Okie!

"It's the girl he's seeing and he still hasn't added her contact info. He's such a goober."

"It could still be your phone. I occasionally do that to phones, divert text messages I mean." He looked a bit sheepish.

She looked at him a moment and blinked a few times as what he said sunk in. "Yeah?" She look at the the phone, tapping a few times, swiping a few more. "It is mine. Huh, need to put charm or stickers or something on this thing so I know right off." She quickly sent a text to Gar to call Melissa and shoved her phone into a pocket. "Right. Thanks for fessing up. Good to know I'm not a total klepto space case." She smiled.

"No problem. I hate when it happens by accident. I'm Alan, by the way. Alan Mason."

"Don't worry, accidents happen around here. A misdirected call is by far the least drama inducing. I'm Vertie Easley, little sister and resident animal empath. So you got a techno gift, huh? I bet that's neat and annoying, especially with all the tech most people have."

"Signals everywhere. You'd be amazed if you saw it. It can be a little dazzling sometimes. On the other hand, there's some neat stuff that bounces back and forth."

"No sharing!" She smiled and covered her hands over her hears. She put her hands down and readjusted her bag. "I guess you're here for the learning of the "on and off" tricks, like the rest of us."

"Yeah, I guess. I think they were a little concerned what I might do in a major city like London if things got out of hand. It is sort of quieter out here, but almost as busy."

"Lots of teenagers, lots of tech. Also real fancy tech for dealing with kids with the talent for 'boom". The far side of the island is pretty heavily wooded. Do you like nature?"

"Not really a lot of experience with it. I grew up in London."

"A lot of the ferals and shifters tend to wander over there, but it's still a good place to clear your head, no matter what the talent. Might be a thing for you too, give you some clutter free time."

"I'd get lost in London, it's crazy there. Way too many people and way too noisy."

"I cried in my sleep for a long while to get used to not feeling everyone anymore when Gar and I left home. I wouldn't go back for anything, maybe this little island will be good for you too. Find peace maybe."
