Miranda set up shop in an art room and then sent a text to Haley.

I've got some time if you want to look at the Astral again.

About three seconds later, she'd get a reply--probably before the phone was even set down.

That would be awesome! I'll BRT

Miranda set up her incense and waited patiently for Haley to arrive.

It didn't take very long for Haley to arrive.
"Hi Miranda," she beamed. "Thanks for thinking of me. Had a shitty past couple of days so I needed this."

"I needed some retreat time myself." She leaned forward and lit the incense, putting the cover on it. "Make yourself comfortable."

Haley sat across from Miranda, exhaled and then inhaled deeply.
"This stuff smells nice," she said closing her eyes and clearing her head.

"Sometimes I find having something to focus on with another sense helps. You remember how to get there?"

"Yeah...I think I can manage," she said continuing to breathe regularly and deeply and keep her mind clear.
Once she felt like she was ready, she pushed a bit, and suddenly she felt the weight of a gun belt on her hip, a hat on her head, and a somewhat out of place decorative Egyptian bangle on her wrist.
"I...think I did it?" her avatar spoke

Miranda's avatar was not far away, looking different than the las time Haley had seen it. Multi-colored wings, a white robe with a black belt, and a staff with a torch on top. She turned her face to Haley, showing the smooth skin where her eyes should be. The space their avatars were in was exceptionally colorful and constantly shifting. Remember how I talked about the Astral being influenced by its environment? There's a lot of creative energy moving around here.

Haley's avatar opened its eyes and looked around. "Oh wow...you weren't kidding."
She spun around just looking at he scintillating colors for a moment before her eyes settled back on Miranda. "You...look different than the last time we were here."

"A long story and not one I'm particularly proud of. Thankfully I was able to make some much needed changes." She ran her hands through some of the swirling colors. "You can get a true feel for the nature of a place from its Astral."

"I wonder what the astral is like at my grandma's farm...I'm always so relaxed and happy there."

"Possibly pretty vibrant, depending on the type of farm. Not vibrant like this, but... well, it's hard to explain. Have you been in the Astral out in the woods? It's probably pretty similar."

"The lighthouse is *very* weird. I had really strange dreams about that place when I first got here. Your mom helped me with those some."

"Mom or Mum?" Miranda sounded curious as she adjusted the band of black fabric hold back her avatar's hair.

"Yeah, mum's the British. Interesting. I would have thought it would have been Mum helping with that. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised." Something made the colors ripple in concentric circles.

"Was sorta magical or something. I dunno. Magic stuff still hurts my head. She gave me a pendant that helped, but then I was an idiot and listened to some snake who changed it and then we kind of all got sucked into Hell."

"I thankfully don't remember most of that. The spatial nature of that dimension overloaded me I think. For what it's worth, I don't hold that against you. I'm not exactly qualified to judge others for taking bad advice."

"Your mom was also kinda super mean for me even trying to learn about some stuff, so it kinda just played into the thing's plans."
She was quiet for a bit. "Thanks though... I think a lot of people still might. Kind of a big fuck up.

"Mom takes that stuff really seriously. For good reason I think. There's a lot of variations of bad and they're *really* good at hiding just how rotten they are." She shifted her gaze as the colors pulsed again like ripples in a pond. "We may not be alone here."

Haley's eyes widened a bit in concern as she started to look around. Her hands flew to the guns at her hips.
"Good company?"

"As sensible a plan as any," she said, banging her staff on the ground. "In the name of the Mother, show yourself."
The ripples continued, but this time they could hear a voice, "I know of many mothers, though you may not be drawing on the one you think you are. But who am I to refuse such a request." A horse-like creature swam out of the ripples, floating in front of them. At least, the front half was horse-like, the back half having a twisting flipping tail like a fish.

"My name is..." What followed was an incomprehensible noise in a language that neither of the girls knew.
"I don't think I caught that," Miranda said.
The creature repeated the noise before realizing that the girls didn't understand. "I do not know what your equivalent would be. I apologize."

"A pleasure to meet you both," Samuel said, bobbing in a sort of bow.

"There are some places deeper in this realm that are truly beautiful. Words do not do them justice. One was this brilliant forest where crystals grew on the trees."
Miranda smiled, "That does sound lovely."
