Issue 1 Downtime

Sometime after Kay's breathing incident in the Danger Room, Miranda knocked quietly on her door. She was dressed mostly in a pair of black jeans and a black hoodie. Not exactly festive, but at least she wasn't wearing dark make-up as well. "Kay, it's Miranda. Just wanted to check and make sure you were okay."

There's a muffled response from inside, kinda sounding like somebody talking into a pillow.

"I'm fine..."

"Are you sure?" Her hand rests on the doorknob, but she doesn't open the door.

"Totally fine." she says, sounding like she lifted her head from the pillow, but also like she's been crying.

Miranda frowns and opens the door a little bit, "What's wrong, Kay? And don't tell me everything's fine. I can hear that it's not."

"I'm turning into a fish!" she bawls.

Miranda slips in, shutting the door behind her, and moves quickly over to Kay, "I'm sure that's not true."

"Yeah it is." she sniffs, letting down the blanket she's huddle up in to show her the partially translucent, water-filled collar around the sides and the back of her neck. "I can't even breathe air anymore."

"It looks really cool," she said, looking at it. "Much nicer than the collar I used to wear."

"It's a 'Kay's too stupid to breath' collar. Everyone's gonna make fun of me tomorrow..."

"Maybe it's not totally awful then..." she musters a weak smile.

Kay just glances down at the floor, totally not blushing. Her faint smile turns a bit broader and goofier though.

"Okay, you'll have to explain that reaction to me. It's a new one." She tilted her head as she regarded Kay.

"Nothing, just... It's... you're being nice to me, that's all." she blubbers. Quite literally, apparently being embarrassed and talking while breathing water doesn't mix super well so her voice takes on a vague watery quality.

"Is there a reason I shouldn't be nice to you?" She was starting to sound a little confused.

"Of course not... I didn't mean... You don't have to have a reason to be nice." she says, telling herself that Miranda probably didn't mean it the way she decided to hear it to begin with.

"Good," Miranda says, squeezing Kay's hand. "I'm glad."

That causes a blush to creep on to Kay's cheek again, though this time she tries her best not to look away from Miranda.

"Have you ever had a crush on somebody?" she asks, only for the obvious to dawn on her a split second later. Ugh! Stupid! She spend all her life in that awful place, who should she have crushed on. What a terrible question, Kay!

"No, it's not..." She regarded Kay quietly for a long moment, but Kay somehow got the sense that Miranda wasn't looking at her at the moment, but somewhere else.

"Sorry... vision." Her voice was quiet and maybe a bit... breathless? It was entirely possible that she was blushing. Either way, she was still looking a little zoned out.

"Just promise me if you turn into a frog that you won't blame me," she said, leaning forward.

"Sure..." she says, not really following at all, in large parts because she's getting a little distracted by Miranda being so close.

Miranda just smiled and then leaned in to kiss Kay.

Kay almost seizes up a second before she gets over the surprise and carefully returns the kiss, squeezing Miranda's hand that she's still holding on to.

"Oh my gosh..." she whispers, her face flushed.
