I13DT - I Dream Of Gardens In The Desert Sand

There were black birds in the astral trees and, though her physical body was tossing and turning, Miranda's mind was wandering in her sleep. Her avatar wore the red hood and black one-shouldered dress that reached to the 'ground'. She paid little mind to the birds, not sure if they were there because she had been dreaming of them or because they were actually there.

The "wandering", for someone with mild telepathic abilities, can be more literal than intended.

As she walked, the buildings around began to change. They started getting older and older as she went on, passing through Victorian-era English houses, saloons and sheriff offices, feudal pagodas, and medieval castles.

Strange. She pulled a bow off her back that hadn't been there before. Hello?

"Who goes there!" a loud, demanding voice called.

Roland stood a ways off, in front of a deserty part of the area.

Miranda, the avatar said. Mister Sackville?

"Sackville?" he blinked for a moment. "Sackville...Sackville. Yes. Yes, I could be called that."

What should you be called? She continued to approach radiating curiosity.

"My name is..." he paused, looking around.

"Runihura, I suppose, right now."

Runihura then. What are you doing here?

"I'm...not sure. I was searching for someone...but it's all gone hazy."

Perhaps I can help. I'm told I can see things.

"I...know you, don't I. We've met. I'm sorry, it's so hard to remember sometimes..."

We have, though not here and not the way you are now. You bought me pizza. She slung her bow back over her shoulder.

Maldon. I've never been to... She trailed off and her avatar tilted its head as she regarded him.

"...Maldon. Maldon, yes, of course..." he said, half to himself. "The university..."

Who was your sister? Do you remember? The avatar tugged her hood down somewhat self-consciously.

And how am I like her? I'm a little confused. She found a nearby rock and sat on it, folding her hands in her lap.

I really don't know. From my perspective, they are things you have seen. Perhaps from the perspective of this portion of yourself, they are things you will see.

"You know, I hate seers and their mumbo-jumbo. Always pretending they know what's best. Always pretending what I will see is fixed. Playing God amongst mortals."

I certainly don't know what's best. And I'm not certain I even know what may be, much less what will be. But aren't all of us playing little parts of God among the mortals with the abilities we have?

"Abilities," Runihura scoffed. "I have nothing that I have not earned for myself."

But its existence is not earned. This statement sounded weird coming from her.

"I spit in the face of the Gods themselves."

That certainly takes some stones. And it would explain your general opinion of gods.

Roland laughed, for some reason. "Yes, I suppose you could say it took some stones. Figurative, though. Not literal."

Figurative is what I mean. I believe spitting stones would be an entirely new ability.

Anyway. I decide what path my life takes. No one else. I decide what skills I have. No one else."
