Emily sat down at a table with a tray of food. She had taken all her food apart and arranged the separate ingredients into squares. Staring straight ahead she began to eat with an almost mechanical precision.

Ashlie, riding her shiny new unit, walks into the cafeteria, scanning the room. Her head stops swivelling when she sees Emily and the very confusing data she's picking up from the young woman. Curious she walks over towards her table.

Emily sees ASHLIE approach and looks directly at the girl.

"Hello."

"Good morning! I am Ashlie. I do not recognize you." she says.

"Really? That is strange. I have been a student her for quite a while," Emily says, "I am Emily Peralta. I am a graduate student here at Xavier University."

"It is nice to meet you, Miss Ashlie."

"So you are. How odd. My memory banks must be out of synch with the school system. That is an easy fix." she smiles. "I apologize for not recognizing you."

"It is fine. I was absent for some time to recover from an accident," Emily says, "So there is no need to apologize, Miss Ashlie. You will not be punished for simple ignorance."

"Punished? Who would punish me for not performing within efficiency parameters?"

"The Headmistress, I assume," Emily says, "Although, I imagine she does not handle punishments personally. They are most likely beneath her."

"I was not aware of that. It isn't mentioned in any of the guidelines or system-parameters."

"Then how do you imagine the school maintains order?" Emily asks, "It is most likely just so obvious that you were assumed to know."

"I was asked to help security issues. That is why I designed this unit. Do you think they expect me to make that part of my duties?"

"It is likely," Emily says, "In my experience, security was often in charge of punishment."

"I will not hold that against you though," Emily says, smiling in a friendly and reassuring manner, "Even if you are to horribly torture deviant students, it is only your purpose. You can not be blamed for that."

"This unit is fitted with non-lethal weaponry. I am glad you will not dislike me because of it." she smiles.

"However, if you attempt to lay a finger on me I will tear you apart," Emily says quickly, glaring at Ashlie for a moment.

Then she picks up her juice box and sips from the straw, smiling happily about nothing in particular.

"Ideally I will not have to engage anybody except the intruder Miss Romanov identified."

"What intruder? Are they dangerous?"

"They have not hurt anyone so far. We are waiting for them to by-pass security again so they can be detained."

"Why not hunt them down?" Emily asks.

"We don't know who it is or where they came from. So we are waiting for them to come to us."

"What did they do that was wrong?" Emily asks. "Did they damage a student?"

"They mentally manipulated the chief of security to open a window for them to enter the school grounds. We don't know their motivation for doing so."

"Perhaps they were trying to free one of the students," Emily says.

Despite Onyx's best efforts, Emily had some weird ideas about what XI was.

"But everyone is here voluntarily. The detainment facilities are at Muir."

"Oh, of course they are," Emily says, "Otherwise this facility would be in violation of the law."

"However, if students were not here voluntarily, then it might very well be an escape attempt."

"You do not know? This is a training facility," Emily explains, "The 'students' are being kept her so they can learn how to best serve their future owners. They just can not admit to it because it would cause legal difficulties."

Somewhere in the world, Onyx was beating her head against a wall in frustration.

"I disagree," Emily says, "If that was true, there would be no unhappy people. People believe they want to be happy. The evidence suggests otherwise."

Ashlie seems to freeze for a couple minutes.

"It seems people do not always know what makes them happy. And often their happiness comes at the detriment of someone else. I currently have no suggested fix for this glitch."
