Breakfast of Champions

At a table, tucked in one corner of the cafeteria, a spoon was floating up, and listlessly poking a bowl of oatmeal. Presumably Aisha was eating breakfast.

"Hey there," Cal said, as usual hauling a full backpack that more than likely had no books or notebooks at all in it. "The food underwhelming as usual today?" he asked as he set his own tray down.

"I'm supposed to make some sort of 'most important meal of the day' comment right now, aren't I?" Cal asked, cutting his sausage up. He took a bite, letting that comment hang for a moment. "So what's really wrong?"

"Something happen?" Cal asked, trying to buy time. He had the feeling that he needed to do SOMETHING to make her feel better, but what could he do?
