Issue 1 Downtime

Cal took a seat at the table in the kitchen, wondering how fast he could eat and get out of there. Still wonder who that was pinging my head last night... Didn't think anyone knew me to be trying to give me shit yet.

Still, living in a mansion at least got one a better breakfast than one would get at home, he reflected as he picked at his bacon and eggs.

Dana sat down across from Cal, carrying a tray of mostly fruit. She didn't say a word, just started organizing her food.

And, disconcertingly, as Cal looked up at the girl, her public information on the school network scrolled along the side of his vision. Well that's just fucking weird.

Still... she was human, and so far since getting here he hadn't talked to any of those. "Hi," he said quietly, snapping the 'creepy' mechanical eyes back down toward his food.

There was a long pause as Dana finished organizing her food in order of color. Then she looked up.

"I'm Cal," he said, self-consciously keeping his left hand under the table, shooting a tentative glance up at her.

"I make it my business to know this stuff," Dana says, "It would be difficult to hide your identity anyway. Your appearance is very distinctive."

Well, Oka broke the newly forming awkward silence by taking a seat at their table. He was wearing normal clothes on top of his containment suit.

"Uh, this seat isn't taken is it?" Oka asked in his robotic sounding voice.

Shit, that totally was her. What does she want? Seriously, I've never met this chick before, why's she picking on me? I thought that I'd be getting away from shit like that here? Dammit, what do I do now?

"So do I get to know your name, then?" Cal asked, more than a little defensively, then looked up at Oka in surprise. Is this more people m- oh, no, there it is in his school file. "Oh, uh, no. Go ahead," he said.

"It isn't a secret," Dana says, glancing over at Oka, "Don't worry about the seats. They're reinforced. They can probably take the additional weight of your containment suit."

Dana gets up and starts heading after Calvin.

"Calvin," Dana says, trying to get his attention before he leaves.

Dana glances at Oka, "No. It's my fault. Trust me. This happens a lot."

Dana looks back at Calvin, "I'm sorry."

And hearing that it was something mutation-related seemed to deflate Cal some. "Really? So... you..." He sighed. "Shit, I'm sorry. I had someone screwing with me last night, and I'm kind of jumping at everything today."

He shrugged. "Poking computer-boy is just fun, I guess," he said with a scowl, looking down at his plate that he'd been about to scrape off, which was still mostly full. Sighing, he turned to go sit again.

"At least we've got past our little misunderstanding," Oka said, "My name is Keiki O'Ka Aina. But my friends call me Oka."
