Sept. 5th: A Familiar Song

[Winifred Winters]

A bit of a bleary-eyed Winn shakes her head, "What?"

[Veronica Glarette]

As she notices Winn's bleary eyes, she just leans over and gives her a hug.

"I would say I am sorry, but zere is truly nosing I can say to make you feel better. Zere is nosing I can say or do to understand what happened. But hopefully a hug will help, even if in zee smallest way." She says honestly. And she knew it. There was nothing she could do or say about the situation. This being said, she decided to do what she did best. Be there to listen.

[Winifred Winters]

"It's fine," Winn says, feeling suddenly uncomfortable. "Shit happens, y'know?"

[Veronica Glarette]

"Eet does. Yet you dwell on it, non?" She releases the hug.

[Winifred Winters]

Winn is quiet for a moment.

"It's easy most of the time. You think that you have time to make up for things. That the worst thing you ever did? You'll do something just as good to balance it out. No worries."

"If I think a lot about it, it's because I don't think I'll ever make up for it. There's just not enough time."

[Veronica Glarette]

"Zere is not enough time because you choose zere not to be. You haf already given up. You haf accepted your early 'expiration date'. Mais, what makes you sink eet is so definite that you haf no time?"

[Winifred Winters]

"A bunch of doctors and scientists telling me I have about a year left," Winn says. "I've seen the tests. The scans. I've only got one lung left. My stomach's completely gone. The only thing that's keeping me alive at this point is the same thing that's gonna kill me."

[Veronica Glarette]

"I am not trying to be rude or be too optimistic when I say zis but...I belief a year is more zen enough time to do what it is you described, Winn. What is stopping you? Do you need help?"

[Winifred Winters]

"That's not how this works," Winn says. She sounds a bit bitter now, "I'm not going to just walk around all fine until, oops, I drop dead or go away in my sleep. It's getting harder for me to do anything. Some days I can barely get out of bed. It hurts too much."

"And now, I'm seeing and hearing things, do you know what that probably means?" Winn asks. "It means that my powers are starting to burn away at my brain. They told me that was a possibility too. I met spend the last few months of this not even being able to feed myself."

"So, fuck your 'there is still time' shit."

[Veronica Glarette]

"I never said you should walk around as if nosing is wrong. And my apologies if I offended you. It was not my intention." She says sincerely. Dropping her view on things for the time being, she asks something.

"When was zee car accident?"

[Winifred Winters]

"A couple years ago," Winn says.

[Veronica Glarette]

"Who was eet zat was watching it happen?"

[Winifred Winters]

"What are you talking about?" Winn asks.

[Veronica Glarette]

"Zere was someone watching you. When you opened zee door off zee car."

[Winifred Winters]

Winn looks at Veronica like she's crazy, "No. I was alone."

[Veronica Glarette]

"You saw no one? Zee person was...zey were kind off shiny. Like golden almost."

[Winifred Winters]

Winn pauses, like she's thinking. "No. There wasn't."

[Veronica Glarette]

"Perhaps I am mistaken. Eet is not often I attempt to see people's memories on purpose, so eet is possible it was just a fluke, non?"

[Winifred Winters]

"Maybe," Winn says carefully.

[Veronica Glarette]

"I am sorry if I upset you in any way. Eet was not my intention. Everyone has a different outlook on life, and honestly no one has a right to push zere's on you without feeling what eet is you are going through."

[Winifred Winters]

Winn waves it off, "It's fine. You're not the first person to try to give me a big dose of bullshit optimism."

[Veronica Glarette]

She gives a soft laugh. "Suppose eet is easy for ozers to be able to have such optimism when zey know zey are not facing what you are." A pause. "Is zere anysing you have on a list off sings to do before...you know..."

[Winifred Winters]

"Gods, no," Winn says, leaning against the wall. "I can't think of anything more depressing then trying to check off as many life experiences as I can before I die. Fuck. That'd just be miserable."

[Veronica Glarette]

"Just playing it by ear zen?"

[Winifred Winters]

"I'm very whimsical," Winn says.

[Veronica Glarette]

"What is your favorite sing to do?"

[Winifred Winters]

"Get plastered and make very bad decisions," Winn says.

[Veronica Glarette]

"Is being plastered really zat fun?" She asks with a chuckle.

[Winifred Winters]

"It's...therapeutic," Winn says. "It gets you out of your own head for awhile."

[Veronica Glarette]

"Seraputic. Hm. I may have to try zis sometime." Great idea, Veronica.

[Winifred Winters]

"How 'bout tonight?" Winn asks.

[Veronica Glarette]

"Hm...I have to make a stop at zee library first. What time were you sinking? And where?"

[Winifred Winters]

"There's a place I go in town," Winn says. "Evening. After dinner."

[Veronica Glarette]

"Meet you outside zee Manor?" This is a bad idea. But why not?

[Winifred Winters]

"Sounds like fun," Winn says, heading for the door. "See you then."

[Veronica Glarette]

She waves and turns to the piano, adjusting the sheet music before beginning her practice.
