Theresa was on her knees out near the edge of the woods. She was wearing shorts, so her skin was in contact with the ground. Her eyes were closed, but there were green wisps of energy escaping around the lids.

A large wolf slipped out of the woods. Sitting down, it watched Theresa quietly.

Theresa inhaled deeply, then exhaled slowly, opening her eyes and looking around. They glowed as she surveyed the space around her, noting the wolf, but looking unconcerned to the point of serenity. "I wasn't aware there were wolves in the UK, which means you're one of the school's residents."

Murphy shifts fluidly and easily, becoming a tall girl wearing a training suit.

"Bothering you?"

"Murphy," Theresa said, her smile widening. "Not at all. I wasn't aware you were a shifter."

"Long story. Bitten by werewolf," Murphy says. "Freshman year."

This probably was what Murphy considered a long story.

"Cool. You seem pretty chill for a werewolf."

"Thank you," Murphy says. "You smell like rain."

Murphy wasn't great at compliments.

"There's a reason for that," Theresa said, waving her hand through the air. A small rain cloud formed behind it, drizzling onto the ground.

"Lots and lots of practice," she said. "The only time you'd need to worry though is if I start smelling like ozone."

Theresa slowly stood up, turning to look into the woods. "This way," she said calmly as she started walking. "So what do you do for fun?"

Murphy follows after her, "Read. Hunt."

"You?"

"Read. Play video games."

"Walked through France and Spain this summer. That was a lot of fun."

"Yes. I love the mountains too. They were very peaceful and peace was what I was really looking for."

Theresa seemed to be mulling over her answer for a bit, "You know how you said how you were bitten by a werewolf your Freshman year. Well, last year, I was touched by what I later found out was a nature goddess."

"It changed you," Murphy says. As Theresa says, she has some familiarity with this sort of narrative.

Theresa nodded, "Profoundly. I spent most of last semester just trying to come to terms with it. But it wasn't until I got away that I really understood." By this point, Murphy's nose could probably pick up the scent of tire rubber.

"How I fit. I don't understand it all yet, but finding my place was so much easier out there." She stopped and frowned. They weren't far from the road and it looked as if someone had taken the opportunity to dump a trio of bum tires on school property. "Assholes," she muttered.

Murphy nods, crouching down to pick up two of the tires.

Theresa picked up the other one and started rolling it back the way they'd come. "So what's it like being a werewolf?"

"Fun," Murphy says. "Simple."

"Didn't make a great human," Murphy explains. "Better as a wolf."

Murphy blushes, "Date's fine."

She looks embarrassed, but that happy sort of embarrassed.
