Issue 1 Downtime

CRASH!

That was the sound of a tree erupting through the roof of the estate's greenhouse. A leafy, tropical, flowering tree that simply didn't belong in England even in summer. Formerly muffled rock music of the metallic persuasion drifts out from the hole.

Nina knocks on the door, "Morning!"

"Nice tree."

"What?! I can't..."

Ozzie used a remote to turn the music down and headed towards the door, placing the device in the pocket of his lab coat.

"Oh! Why hello there lass."

"Hello," Nina says cheerfully. "I'm sorry if I snuck up on you. Bad habit of mine these days."

"But why are we talking through a glass door? Come in, come in!" he insisted.

Nina steps inside, "It's not so bad. Adds a little color to the place."

"Aye. Though I was really just trying to get things here in respectable shape. I... think I got carried away somewhere..." he answered, motioning to the lush indoor jungle around them.

Nina giggles, "Nonsense. That's just an extreme example of success."

"Well it's true I've still got it," he grinned.

"I'd feel more successful if I did it with science and not powers though."

"That would be pretty nifty keen," Nina agrees. "So, what exactly are you working on?"

As she talks with Ozzie, tiny probes spread out across the room, gathering information.

The probes would find nothing inherently unnatural about the plants, unless you count the plants that were moving. Some carnivorous ones even tried to eat a few probes.

"Mainly just using my abilities to hybridize normally incompatible flora to see what I get."

Did something just burp?

"But where are my manners? Doctor Ozzie McClanahan, at your service," he said with a casual bow.
