Sketching ((Open))

Sean was sitting on a bench with a sketchpad in front of him. He appeared to be sketching the gardens and whatever students happened to be in the area. If anybody was looking the sketched figures appeared to match the movements of their real world selves.

"Now, THAT'S a neat trick," Ayami said, coming up behind him.

Sean tensed as he'd been a bit lost in his sketching.

"Oh, It's nothing special," Sean said, "It can make detail work a bit difficult when they keep moving around."

"Yeah. Can't you draw, like, a wall or something? Get 'em to stop movin' around so much?"

"It'd be simple enough to end the enchantment animating them," Sean said, "I... never actually considered drawing a wall. Might be able to put boxes around the figures. Should keep them from moving around too much."

"See? There ya go. Simple as that. Another crisis averted.

So....enchantment, huh? You another witch-person?"

"You could say that," Sean said, "Though witch-person isn't therm I would use."

"Eh, it's close enough. It's all the same kinda stuff."

"Saying that is one way to start an argument among the witch-people," Sean said. "We don't all approach it the same way. Just like a telekine and somebody with super strength don't approach their mutation the same way."

"Pfft. Magic is magic. It's all rule-breaking mumbo jumbo."

Sean chuckled.

"It's only mumbo jumbo to people who don't know how to use it," Sean said, "Magic has rules all its own."

"Yeah, but, like, half of it contradicts the other half and stuff."

"It can certainly look like that at times," Sean smiled. "Especially from the outside. It's a bit easier to understand when you've been using magic since before you were able to walk and later on have a knowledgeable teacher."

"Man, you could use magic before you can walk? You must have been the baby from hell."

"Probably," Sean said his smile fading. "Fortunately I don't think infants are the most...potent magic wielders. I'm sure they took other precautions as well."

"Best you can do is make sure your house is insured," Sean said, "But yeah it is a rather terrifying thought."

"So. Magic pen?"

"Could work," Sean mused, "You'd probably want to make it more of magic dome to prevent magic from flying over the walls of the pen."

"Huh. I suppose that could work. Have to be more powerful, I'm guessing -- that's how all those magical pissing contests seem to go.

On another note -- magic pen?" she asked, pointing to what Sean was drawing.

"No, it's just a minor cantrip cast on the paper," Sean said, "When i was younger it was fun to experiment with magic and this was one I came up with. I also figured out one to temporarily animate origami figures. Both were better than the experiments that burned off my eyebrows."

"Experimenting with magic can sometimes be volatile," Sean said, "Especially when you're young and really want to try and make a fireball."

"A fireball? That's crazy-nuts-awesome."

"When I was younger that was about my train of thought too," Sean chuckled before holding out his palm. He said something quietly that still managed to hurt the ears and then there was tennis ball sized piece of fire in his hand. "There's a part of me that still gets excited when I use that spell. Even though it's not a particularly difficult one."

Sean said something else and then he closed his hand around the ball of flame. When he opened it again the fire was gone.

"I'm sure you can do something equally impressive," Sean said.
