Orientation - Refreshing Refreshments

The Estate's meticulously kept gardens, including a hedgemaze that students have occasionally described as "sadistic" and a sizeable rose garden. Benches in shaded spots are plentiful, and the gardens are popular to study in on pleasant days.

Ka-Zar looks side-long to Kay as he pours himself some punch.

Graham Jaeger wrote:"It does have benefits," he nodded. "Being super agile is really cool for example."

"Plus, you can probably give awesome piggy-back rides," Maya says. She was a bit more relaxed now that she wasn't surrounded by so many people.

Maya's smile fades a bit and she shakes her head. "Yeah, well..."

She's committed herself to holding the soda now. She turns it over and over in her hands idly.

"Do you ever get scared? Y'know, being something else?"

"Oh, thank god," Maya says. She sounds very relieved. "I thought I was the only one. I keep thinking 'oh god what if I get stuck in someone's lungs and they suffocate and die a slow, painful choking death'."

"Not, not that I've spent a lot of time thinking about that," Maya says quietly.

The idea of shooting a deer with Graham's face jumped into Maya's head and she winced. She felt vaguely nauseous thinking about all the blood and viscera as she would saw off his antlers...

Stop it, stop it, stop it, stop it. He'll hear you.

Maya taps the top of her soda. She keeps her eyes staring at the ground, not even glancing Graham's way.

"That...that sounds awful," Maya says.

"And here I thought you spent your Saturday mornings watching cartoons." She reached out and gave Will's hair a little tussle before sitting down on the bench beside him, giving his side a gentle elbow for his flourish. "Oh that it so totally cheating."

"I've been pretty good, just finishing up my summer internship. How've you been? How's the family?"

Maya could taste blood in her mouth. Her stomach turned as the bloody image replayed in her head over and over again.

"Excuse me," Maya says, stumbling over to a convenient bush for her to be sick into.

"It's not cheating, it's training" Will teased, needling her back.

Veronica gave a soft sigh of relief. "Well that's good to hear. As much as I enjoy getting my picture in the paper, I really hope that this year is a lot more laid back than last year."

She wiggled upon the bench seat a bit, getting herself more comfortable.

"Know any good duets?"

Maya nods, leaning against a tree. Truthfully, she wanted to go hide for the rest of her life, but you can't just say that to a group of strangers that watched you throw up.

"Sorry. Sorry," Maya says. "Sorry, sorry."

"Please, stop listening to my thoughts," Maya requests miserably. She doesn't sound angry so much as defeated.

Maya cringes at Paul's comment. She accepts the water from Jennifer though, "Thank you."

She tucks the can of soda under her arm and cracks open the water, she swirls it around in her mouth and spits some out on the ground, away from the group.
