Nick had managed to convince his friend that in some circumstances it was not very useful to wear a heavy leather jacket. Currently, the creature had taken on the appearance of an elaborate tattoo along his upper chest and arms.
After the second hit, a tendril whipped out and slashed at the bag, leaving a long cut in the material.
Satisfaction.

"Hold on little dude, I'm not actually trying to destroy it. I break it I bought it."

"It's just exercise. Making the body stronger."

The creature respond with a series of barely connected images as they puzzled this out. Strength. Exercise. Training.
Training for...service?

Nick shuddered a little.
"Strictly voluntary training. Not to serve anyone but me."

Understanding.
Master.
The word was soft and reverent in Nick's mind.

Simplicity. Annoyance.
There are masters. There are slaves. You are a master.
Simplicity.

Puzzled.
No one taught me. It just is.

"No. It isn't. In fact, that way of thinking is one of the things I joined the X-Men to fight."

Frustration.
It does not matter. It is how you are born. Master...
A picture of Nick.
Slave.
People in pens. Collars around their necks.
Simple.

Hurt. Angry. The creature remained silent. Apparently Nick was getting the silent treatment now.

Nick hit the bag extra hard, angry himself.

"Varkan, I go on one mission with you alone and you come back with something out of the X-Files attached to you. What did you do this time?" Melody smirked, leaning on a weight machine and watching him skewer the punching bag. I got bored reading your vague as hell report, so dish."

"What? This?' he smirked, pointing at the 'tattoo' on his bare chest and arms, "I was yummy apparently... though it's not actually eating me."

"Yet," she smirked.
"It's a good look for you though. I mean, it could have turned into poorly translated Chinese symbols but it chose that, so it can't be that malicious, right?"

”and you've, I hope, contacted some of the science/medical types about this, right? I only question your judgement occasionally. Like a few weeks ago when I'm pretty certain I saw you leaving the Rose and Crown with a local woman who looked old enough to be your mother." she teased.

What is "evil"?

"Aaand now it wants to know what evil is."
"Morally wrong. Morality being something priests and philosophers have been trying to figure out forever. I can't define it any better, but I know evil when I see it. Most cultures agree on murder being evil though, for example. Maybe I can show you.
He concentrated on everything he saw as evil, including slavery before he realized he should maybe have left that out for now.
