Mariuset, dressed in a plain black one piece, was standing in front of the hot tub, gingerly poking it with one toe.

Trev was heading towards the hot tub for an evening soak when he noticed the girl standing before it hesitantly. He set his towel down on a nearby chair and smiled cheerfully at the girl he didn't recognize.

"Water's usually fine," he explained, stepping in quickly and regretting it, since it was a lot hotter than he expected. Grimacing slightly he eased into the water.

"...kay...that's...a bit hotter...than...I...thought...ahhh... there we go," he smiled. "I'm Trev. You must be new."

"I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be hot." Mariuset replied "The smell was rather odd." she slipped into the water "It does feel quite pleasant."

"No, not really." Mariuset replied "When I was little we sometimes visited thermal vents, but that was different."

"Down on the ocean floor, you get volcanically active places, where the water kind of bubbles up." Mariuset tried to explain "The water is quite warm, and its very pleasant there. The one near my home-by where I lived when I was little, I should say, is a popular picnic spot."

"In a way, yes." Mariuset replied "I am of Lemuria, he is of Atlantis. But both of us come from under the ocean."

"Huh. Guess I never knew that there were more than one undersea civilizations. Well, how do you like dry land so far?"

"Exiles gotta stick together," he chuckled. "So, the tradition here, at a school full of mutants, seems to be asking about each others powers rather than 'hey, what's your major?' So what do you do?"

"I'm working on using my own voice to sort doing other things. In theory, I should be able to fly."

"How's pyrokinesis work underwater?"

"It isn't spectacularly useful, it mostly just allows me to make the water really hot." she said "And the need for a breathing apparatus makes it unsafe for me to breathe fire. When my mutation manifested, I lost the ability to breathe normally." she explained.

"Unless I want to spend the rest of my life living in an air dome or a cave, and wearing a breathing apparatus when I want to go out, or being marooned on an island, I cannot live in Lemuria." Mariuset said, a little sadly "Not to mention that the Crownite priestesses will sacrifice me if they are able."

"There's plenty to do up here on land though. A lifetime of sights to see, and a whole lot of cool people who almost make up for the bad ones you'll find anywhere.

"Well good," he smiled. "Let me know if you ever need someone to show you around. I've gotten pretty good at campus tours since I work at the admissions desk, and it's always fun to get off campus and head into town.'

Unless there's more giant robots being piloted by more mutant-hating jerks lurking around town.
