With the Danger Room down, Mars joined the flood of students using the Rec complex. She took the bow she "confiscated" during the clown fight and headed to the indoor range for some target practice.

There, an impossibly foppishly dressed man was taking some target practice with an old-fashioned dueling pistol.
He was wearing ear protection, though, so he didn't notice at first when Mars came in.

Mars grins, "Nice guns."

"Hello," Mars says. She gets into stance, tapping into Fifi's skills, and nocks an arrow. With a smooth draw and release she hits a bullseye, "I'd say they were old-fashioned, but I'm not really one to talk."

"It's an extra level of challenge over the laser-sighted pistols of today.

"Not guns," Mars says, "My father believed guns were 'cruel and barbaric weapons best left to the untalented savages of the world'."
Mars fires another arrow.

"Crueler than shooting someone in the knee with an arrow?"

Mars smirks, "If you're good enough, you never even need to hit anyone with the arrow."
Mars fires again, this time hitting just a fraction of a centimeter to the side of the target.
Mars smiles, "'Violence is for people who don't have talent'."

"Well, as long as the other person doesn't know that's your philosophy, I suppose."

"Even if they know, what are they going to do as long as I'm better than them?" Mars asks.

"Well, if you won't shoot them, they could simply charge you."

"Well, they could punch you in the face, for one. Or shoot you."

"I'm not afraid of fire or anything else," Mars says, returning to shooting, "Most burns are caused by hesitation. Move quickly, stay low, and fire is a toothless beast."
"'Fire doesn't kill, fear kills'," Mars quotes again.

"Photographic reflexes," Mars says, "I can learn something just by watching someone do it."
"I take it you're some sort of flaming...guy?" Mars asks.

"Well, it should. Heir to the Duke of Wellinton, future KG, LVO, OBE, DL, Prince of Waterloo, Duque de Vitoria, Marques de Torres Vedras, Conde de Vimeiro, Deputy Colonel in Chief to the Yorkshire Regiment and the Blues and Royals, honorary colonel of the 2nd batallion of the Wessex regiment, future member of the House of Lords..." he rattled off.

"No, you see, by establishing a ruling class, you free them from a number of worries, allowing them to devote their time to scholarship to be more effective leaders."

"Now, you see, I won't be ruler, unless there's a massive spate of deaths. I'm not that high up the line of succession."
