Issue 1 Downtime

Roland was apparently not in a good space, and the poor punching bag was feeling it.

The normally dapper and well-dressed professor was in sweats, a headband, and a tank top, and was really laying into the bag, the sounds echoing through the mostly empty workout room. The heavy bag was really swinging on the chain as he tore into it, laying on combination after combination. All in all, a very un-professor Sackville-like appearance.

Anita walks into the rec area, dressed in a tight tank top and yoga pants. She watches Roland beat the bag for a couple of moments, then catches it from the other side, holding it steady so his punches can deliver a lot more oomph.

"Yer droppin' yer left shoulder a little."

"You box?" Roland says, continuing to pound the bag.

Anita nods. "Yeah. All parta the team trainin'. This seems like it might be more stress relief fer ya though."

Anita chuckles. "Cause I kin recognize the signs from when I got some bad news," She grunts as Roland hits the bag particularly hard. "An I beat a speed bag ta death."

"Are you sure?" he said, wiping some sweat off his brow. "I wouldn't want you to get hurt."

Anita chuckles and lets go of the bag, sizing Roland up. "I just been workin' down in tha Congo with X-Corp. Plus, healin' factor."

"Lemme just tape up my hands and we kin have a go."

"Oh, you have a healing factor as well, then?"

Anita nods. "Yeah. I ain't no Logan, but it's a darn sight better than what I used ta have, health-wise." She starts taping up her hands. "So don't 'spect me ta be a delicate flower, you got a healin' factor, I ain't gonna pull my punches too much."

Anita walks over to one of the tumbling mats, and bounces a little on the balls of her feet to warm up. "Just boxin', or full-out unrestricted hand ta hand?"

Anita grins, flashing a pair of sharp fangs briefly. "Alright, it's on then. Friendly match, so callin' fer a break should be respected, an' steppin' off the mat counts as callin' fer a break."

She brings up her hands and settles into a loose fighting stance, eyes focused on Roland's torso.

Roland's stance would be significantly more difficult to place -- it seemed loose and flowing. Most people wouldn't notice quite how big Roland was when he was wearing his suit, but with it off, he had some surprising musculature.

Anita moves in, fast and hard, going for a couple of quick jabs, and followed by a kick toward Roland's head, despite their height disparity. Well, almost at his head anyway.

Roland took the jabs, but he slipped down and low, under Anita's kick, catching it in one hand. In the same motion, with his other arm, he threw an elbow towards the back of her thigh.

Anita had been hit by superstrength people before, and, assuming Roland connected, she would know that he wasn't in that league. In the league of "30-something history professors," however, he hit like a truck.

Anita takes the hit, though once she felt it she wished she hadn't, not expecting Roland to be quite that able. However, at the same time she wrenches her leg out of Roland's grasp and attempts to wrap her knee around the back of his neck, driving his head toward the mat with her powerful gymnast/runner's legs.

Roland was unable to prevent the leg from going round his neck, but was able to fall so the blow landed on his forearms, rather than flat on his face, and the ensuing practiced shimmy and roll were enough to break him free from Anita's grasp.

There was also no way Anita would have ever met a history professor who was able to kip-up back to his feet so quickly, re-entering his base combat stance.

Anita, having gained respect for Roland from that punch, didn't let up! She was already coming at his solar plexus with a knee as he rose.

Roland rolled to his right, deflecting the blow into a grazing one as he went, and comboed it into a backwards elbow aimed at the square of Anita's back.

Anita spins about, aiming a vicious backhand knuckle at Roland's temple... and pulls the punch, stumbling and going a little off balance. She avoided Roland's elbow strike, but is wide open for a moment.

Roland continued his momentum as he crouched, lashing out with a sweep kick at Anita's lower leg.

Anita goes down but tumbles back to her feet almost immediately. She lashes out with a spinning heel kick as she comes to her feet to give her some distance and then drops back into a combat stance, watching Roland.

Roland tried to get out of the way, but still took the heel kick on the chin, which would give Anita the distance she needed.

Anita moves in with an all-out attack, driving forward with quick jabs and then a followup of another high-kick, if the jabs connect.

Roland moved his arms to block the jab, stepping backwards with Anita's momentum, and leaned backwards to avoid the high kick -- it still hit him, but not as solidly as Anita would have liked.

Roland swayed to the left and tried a hook right into Anita's ribs.

Anita is back enough in the swing of sparring rather than actually fighting, that she's able to block the hook, then move in close to try to get inside the taller man's reach and go for a couple of sharp body blows.

Roland, however, was having none of that shit, and fired a short-range knee to keep Anita out at his reach, not hers.

Anita is apparently okay with that exchange, not landing her punches but moving to the side of the knee and continuing the assault from another angle in an attempt to force Roland back.

Roland took some of the blows, but he wasn't even taking a step backwards, no matter how hard Anita pressed. Indeed, he was gradually making his way forward in between the blocks and counter-jabs.

Anita goes with that, taking a blow across the cheek in order to force her way in past Roland's guard. She grabs for his shirt collar and waistband, if successful the grab will transition into a hard throw to the mat.

That, however, gets Roland to take a step backwards, and try to smash her in the face as she leans in.

Anita goes for a block and grab on the smashing arm, not getting a great or solid hold, but a hold nonetheless, and uses that as leverage to try to backhand Roland across the face.

Roland took that, full-force, snarling.

He took his other arm and grabbed Anita, right where she had his first arm (...too many arms) and tried to toss her to the mat.

Anita hooks a leg around Roland's leg, and grips his shoulder tightly with her free hand, letting him take her down but forcing him to come with if he wants to complete the throw.

Roland was going to complete the throw, so he positioned himself in midfall so he would drive his elbow into Anita as they landed.

Anita doesn't have much choice but to take the elbow, and she grunts as the wind is knocked out of her. Her ground game is pretty good, however, she pulls a leg up to slam into Roland's hip, more as a distraction than an attempt to injure as she follows it immediately with an attempt at a chokehold on Roland's neck.
