A brown haired woman in her mid 30's carrying a stack of papers approached the information desk and rung the bell.

Winn was sleeping at the desk. She mumbles something as the bell ring.

God only knows why she's there. She probably locked some poor member of the staff in the closet again.

The woman rung the bell a few more times, glaring at Winn.

A sleepy Winn lifts her head, yawning loudly and stretching out a bit.

"....What the fuck do you want?"

"How rude." The woman replied in shock.

"No, this is cranky," Winn says. "Rude will be when I tell you to suck an entire case of dicks."

"What kind of people work here?" she said to no one in particular. By then she had gotten a better look at Winn "Do you even work here? You look a little young."

"What the fuck?" Winn says. "Do you actually need something or did you just drop by to make bitchy comments to the staff, ya shriveled up bag?"

"Staff," Sergei chuckled from somewhere behind the woman, drawn by random chance, "That's rich Miss Winters."

The woman starts to turn around "Finally, someone who actually wor...Sergei." Julia's tone on that last word changed quite a bit.

"Julia," he answered, face unreadable.

"I didn't expect to run into you here." She didn't look at all pleased. How much was from her previous dealings with Winn and how much a reaction of seeing Sergei was hard to tell.

"I... kind of work here now," he answered, clearly suppressing just how thrown he was by running into her.

"Really, what happened to your old job? You for sure seemed to be more dedicated to it than... other things." Julia said, 110% confident he knew what 'other things' actually meant.

Sergei winced inwardly, knowing he deserved that.

"You're right. I was," he answered.

Bet she didn't see that coming.

She didn't. After a brief pause she asked "I have a few questions about these forms, I'm trying to find someone able to answer them."

He glanced at the stack.

"But these are..." he said, realization hitting him hard, "You mean Charlie's..."

"Yes, she is a mutant. Rather odd stuff has been happening lately and since you are a mutant they suggested she be tested. Just went through that here at the medical center, she's out exploring the grounds now."

“One thing is she had lots of trouble with her cellphones. She got one and it just quit working, then the same thing happened to the replacement, and then that ones replacement, and so on. At first we though it might be her powers were shorting them out or something but apparently that's not the case.“

"The simple explanation was she can somehow, modify chances. That she was somehow accidentally causing herself to get defective phones. The more involved explanation I didn't really understand."

"I sure I wouldn't either," he chuckled.

"I can't promise anything, but I can at least try to help answer questions about the forms. I had to fill out a lot of paperwork to work here."

He winced.

"I... meant on the forms..."

"Oh, a few questions about if I filled the parts out here correctly." She pointed to a section a couple of pages in.

It was a section with several administrative related questions. It would take a while to check all of it but it was filled out correctly.

"It all looks right to me," he said.

I'm going to have to tell them. Better from me than the rumor mill.

She might remember the way his eyes get when he has something important to say that he's in no hurry to.

He sighed.

"There's something I need to tell you. Both of you," he said hesitantly.

"Would it be easier to tell us together?" In the back of her mind she went over what it might be, none of her ideas being even close to right.

He motioned for her to sit as he gathered his thoughts.

"What have you heard about the incident in Thornhurst last December?" he began.

"Nothing other than what has been said on the news, of course that isn't very much."
