It was the day after Nailah's nightmare, and Samantha finally decided it was time to talk to the sphinx. She knocked on Nailah's bedroom door.

Nailah was sitting at her desk, scribbling or sketching something in her notebook.

"Yeah?" she looks up and at the door. "Come in."

Samantha opened the door, but closed it behind once she was inside.

"Hey, have some time to talk?"

"Yeah, sure..." she says, though she's not sure if she likes the tone in Sam's voice.

"It's just that... I don't know. I know I'm really protective of her, because she takes everything so hard, and I guess I always thought that I'd be the one here helping her through stuff but it's... different now."

"I'm probably not explaining it right."

"No... I think I know what you mean. Sometimes it's like... you just wanna hug her and make the rest of the world go away. But it's not like this means she won't need you anymore, right?"

"But still, you two have something special between you now, and I'm not trying to read your minds or anything but strong feelings are hard not to pick up on sometimes. So I sense it, and it's something between you that I just don't have with her and... I guess that's what I'm jealous of."

She was blushing by the end.

"And not er.... yeah."

"Right... well..." she mumbles, not really sure what to say to that. On one hand she feels kind of 'found out' on the other it feels good to have it 'pointed out' like that?

"I mean I dunno... it seems like it wouldn't be like that if we didn't... you know. Not that there's much going on or anything!" she adds quickly.
