[X-World] Blood of Thunder

The night after the incident at the tower, Theresa had resisted going to bed, but since she didn't seem to be in an unreasonable state, she was left to her own devices. So now she was sitting on the roof. Her eyes were glazed over and she was sitting absolutely still. There were a couple of other telepathic presences sitting "in front" of her. They felt so primal that Vertie (and possibly even Brigid) might be able to pick up on them.

Brigid steps out onto the roof, a glint in her golden eyes. Something feels stirred up in her as well. She eyes Theresa, making her way over.

"The child is resting," Theresa said, though it didn't sound like her voice. "What do you want?"

Brigid narrows her eyes.
"...you're not her."

"No. I'm not. But before you let your anger get the best of you, I'm not hurting her either."

"I just miss her. The way she was."
She sits down with a sigh, still regarding Theresa warily.
"I felt that, whatever you're doing."

"She couldn't cope. You don't know what it's like to feel the living world burn. Maybe she was too connected, too in tune with the Mother. It was a risk she accepted willingly. We are moderating the connection, allowing her mind to truly rest. The Winged One and the Sullen One have helped, but it is a bandage at best. She must confront the memories at some point or who she is will fade to nothing."

"Who are you supposed to be, then?"

"We are servants of the Mother. I am, well, I was the spirit of Hyde Park as the mortals used to call it. Sister Wolf and I have been looking after her since she called on us." The second presence turned its attention to Brigid briefly and she could feel the fury boiling under the serene exterior.

The presence in Brigid rears back up at this.
"You're what I felt, then."

"Sister Wolf still feels a connection to the child, even if she has no claim to her anymore." The second presence turned its attention back to Theresa, turning its fury away from Brigid. "The child still cares about you, even if she cannot remember precisely why. One of many memories locked behind the day of fire."

"I don't know what to do. I don't like seeing her like this, but I don't want to hurt her more."

"Pain is, unfortunately, both inevitable and necessary. She is not whole and we cannot make her so ourselves, otherwise we would have done so. Despite her appearance, she is not at peace, she still suffers. She just hides from it."

"I'm just very aware that she could get worse."

"That is a distinct possibility. I see no reason to lie to you. But this," Theresa raised her bandaged arm, "Will continue to be a problem as she is now."

"In a manner of speaking. She's tied to the nature she invoked. That can't be helped or undone by any magic I am aware of. That's one of the reasons I'm bound to her now."

"The rest have been worried that if they don't keep her in this state, she'll do what she did before."

"That's a risk someone will have to take if they don't want to lose her completely. We're only prolonging her decline. I cannot guarantee that she won't invoke the Earth Mother again."

"What would you have done?" Her voice had changed, taking on a commanding tone as opposed to the gentler tone of the previous spirit.

"Don't be foolish. You had responsibilities. Everyone does. The past is the past. The question, Daughter of the Jungle, is what you are going to do now?" There was a subtle growl to the voice.

"And as usual no one listens to the kid." She said as she dropped from the trees, she smelled of smoke and ash. Her hair shorne into a makeshift pixie cut.

"Oh round about the part where Sister Wolf told you to get your head out of your magnificent arse and stop dwelling on the past." She smiled.

"As amazing as I may be, sometimes a wolf will only listen to a wolf. I'm not upset, just glad to have you with us."
